New build working slow

I made a new build around April and just reformatted. After installing the common programs such as avast, adobe , and printer drivers, the computer has been acting a bit slow. By slow, i mean that once it starts, it runs fine but lets say i want to open a program like firefox or ms word, it opens at a normal rate similar to my Pentium 4. I am using a 5 year old 80 gb hard drive so i was wondering if thats the reason?

if he's on 32-bit then it's only getting 3.5gb's, on a 64-bit ur getting all the ram you got and access to more in the future. and i'm gunna say the hdd is gunnay be the bottleneck on that.
