My friend wants me to build him a comp and he told me i could pick any part I want just as long as they aren’t crappy, he wants a med range computer system that will handle anything he will use it for. And i know this build will do just that. But this build has to stay under $1100 with out Monitor and OS he already has those, here is what I have picked out so far please give me any feed back if you have any :)

Coolermaster Extreme Power 650W ATX 12V V2.01 Silent Power Supply 20/24PIN 120MM Fan $69.99

LG G-H20NS10 Black DVD+RW 20X8X16 DVD-RW 20X6X16 INT SATA OEM DVD Writer $29.98

OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400+/*362X1G. DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit $66.99

Coolermaster CAC-T05 Centurion 5 Aluminum ATX Tower Case 5X5.25 1X3.5 4X3.5INT SILVER-BLACK No PS $59.80

HIS Radeon HD 3850 256MB 256BIT GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I Hcdp HDMI HDTV Out Video Card $189.99

AMD Phenom 9600 Black Edition Quad Core Processor Socket AM2 2.3GHZ 4X512KB L2 Cache 95W Retail Box $255.99

Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 ATX AM2+ AMD790X CrossFire 2PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard $177.48

Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 160GB SATA Hard Drive 7200RPM 8MB OEM 3YR MFR Warranty $52.99

It will cost $1,027.14 Canadian that’s including GST and shipping and handling, i was also thinking instead of using the AMD 9600 black edition processor and Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 mother board, i would use core 2 quad 6600, and an ASUS p5k mother board which will cost around $972.00 all together. What do you guys think, but I’m still considering how the spider platform will perform?

personally i am waiting for the 45 nm processors, if you dont want to do that, i hear that intel is ahead of amds in the processors out currently, and with the extra 65 or so i would get a bigger or additional hdd

make links next time.

And yes, as footballdude said, i would consider the intel chips that come out in 5 days.

$1100:
(Now... 45nm's are a great choice.)
Q6600
GA-X38-DS4
OCZ 700W
GTS G92 512MB
Antec 900
Zalman 9700
Writemaster DVD Burner
WDC SE16 SATAII 500GB

I would get Q6600 and ASUS p5k mother board, if I were you.

But if said is true, wait for the 45nm's. I would not recommend ASUS, unless you like looking at their memory compatiblity list... I have a old Asus Slot 1 motherboard. I have tried over 50 sticks on it. Different/Generic RAM. All failed except one 16MB Stick...

so when exactly will the new processors be coming out, and will they come out in usa and canada at the same time? and what are they supposed to have that will beat the one's already out now?

would you be able to tell me what each quarter is, what time of the year they are, and later this quarter the new quads or going to be out??? sorry im still a newb at this but im learning. And how do the new C2D sound are they going to be faster or less power hungry than first model's??

The new CPUs will have smaller transistors, 45nm in size. They will run cooler, use less power, and have increased cache. Well worth the new technology and an advance to Moore's Law.

There are two new C2D's I believe, the E8400 and E8500, 3.0Ghz and 3.13 Ghz, both with a bigger cache than then current 3.0Ghz E6850.

there are more than 2 c2d's, not sure on the exact number, i think that there are 14 total new processors coming out with the duos and quads, later in the quarter would be either feb or march

I just looked at this nice big Intel table.

There are 7 or 8 C2Ds coming out. 1 Xtreme, 4 Xeons (I think these are laptop CPUs), and and 4 quads. So like 16 or 17 new ones. Im excited!!

so will they use the same slots as the older C2D & C2Q ?? or will a person need to get a whole new mother board that will support it?

No i do not think you will need a new board. I think if the board supports quad and core2duo you will be fine. the LGA 775 socket type is important as well, the new ones are all 775 i believe.
