New Build

I turned on my new build. I couldn't get a visual. I meant to install WIN. I assumed the HD wasn't working so I sent it back for a replacement. I hope that is the problem. No beep either. I thought this meant the HD wasn't working. Earlier, in testing the board, the CPU, and the memory, I found everything was up to snuff...I got a visual. I got a beep. The screen was asking for an O/S disc. My assumption is that if one part isn't functioning (the HD), the board won't beep and I won't get a visual???

Incorrect. At least not all the time. If CPU+Mobo+Memory are all good you should get a POST beep (video card will sometimes hang the system up).

Did you do anything else besides disconnect your hard drive? Reseat any other components?

A computer will never fail to post due to a missing or defective storage drive.
Swap your RAM sticks with one another, reseat your CPU, check all connections.

If it worked out of the case it can work in the case.

Since you have self-built system specs in your sig I won't tell you about common noob mistakes like no motherboard standoffs, PSU switch not on, PSU connections loose, etc... though you may still want to check those.

Go ahead and clear CMOS by the way by either moving the appropriate jumper to "short" or by removing the button cell battery for 2 minutes.

I DID get up and running this morning. Only one thing remains. The HD led light on the case doesn't light up. I can only guess that this is due to having no HD installed. I took the MB out of the case and got it going outside, visual and all. The computer is ready to go now. It is waiting for the HD to arrive from CA. Thanks for all your help. Whoever designed this Cooler Master Silencio 352 case forgot that the front fan needs air to suck in. They put a door you can open and close on the front of the case. It looks real good, but you can't operate the computer at maximum capacity with the door closed. The front fan becomes inefficient. The fan tends to suck the door closed. Oh well!!??

Looks like the vents on the side would provide enough space to get airflow through the fans. Do you feel air moving through the vents?

Thanks for your advice. I moved my memory sticks around and cleared the CMOS. Whatever I did, it worked.
