New Build

I have 3 computers which is the least I’ve ever had in over 20 years because I worked as a MIS manager for 20 years in Silicon Valley. I’m an old man of 71 and I have a AMD 955 which is 7 ½ years old and it’s getting slow and a 4 year old i5 which is OK and a 6 ½ year old laptop which I want to replace with a tablet because I don’t go anywhere but it’s nice to have one better that my Fire tablet. So what would you recommend for a new build? I’m thinking a top of the line i5 so I figure this will be the last computer I will build so I might go with an i7 but I understand for a normal person which I am now you can’t tell the different between an i5 and i7 but I also want an 8th generation. Well I just wanted to vent a little and maybe get some ideas.

Budget is a thousand dollars. One PC I use as a backup and the main PC I use like everyone else, Excel, Word, Games, Internet etc.

Thank you for your input
I am going with Intel
Do Not need 16 GB of Ram
Why would I buy a Hard drive with 5400RPM because I think only laptop come with that
The Video card is way over what 99% of what people need
I have a nice EVA 850 Watt power supply I got for less that $65
Where can I buy a Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit that is not pirated

I agree unless you will be doing high end gaming.

There is no 2tb WD Blue 7200 rpm drive. You would have to go with a WD Black to get the 7200rpm. You would have to go with Seagate or another manufacturer to get 7200rpm cheaper.

For you, most likely but not if you were doing any high end gaming.

Newegg, Amazon, Microcenter, Frys. A lot of places.
Budget is a thousand dollars.

I believe for what you use a computer for, your budget is way too much. 750-800 would probably be more realistic for you.

I play games and I have 8 GB for RAM which is more that I need to play any game so I just can't see 16 GB's of RAM unless it's for ego
I agree with the Hard Drive but I have been building computer for many years and I never put a 5400 RPM Hard Drive on my computer and for the life of me I would never understand why someone would do that.
I have a R9-270x video card I paid less than $200 and I can't see how my games can play any better
amazon has got many pirated Windows 10 software and that is why I ask
I agree $750 to $800 would be better for me.
Thank You for your input

you mentioned game on previous post, that lead me to recommend high end video card

HDD speed. i assume all your program are on SSD, storage HDD speed is not important.

intel vs amd, my understanding is Intel cpu currently have shortage and push up the price and make it poor value when compare to amd.
it may be different in usa?
