New cabinet - what to buy?

Hi,

I have the following specs on my current computer. But as I have upgraded my PSU, I find it slightly easier to buy a new cabinet, than replacing the new PSU in a prebuilt computer...

CPU: Intel I5 - 6400
PSU: Cooler Master V550 V2 edition
Memory types: DDR4 - 2133 mhz
SSD: Samsung 500 gb 2.5 SATA.
SSHD: Seagate 1 TB
Chipset/Motherboard: H170 socket.
Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GTX960, 2GB GDDR5, PCIe 3.0 x16 adapter, DirectX 12, DP x1, HDMI x1, DVI x2
Ram: 2*8GB G.skill vengeance - 2133 Mhz

Could you point me in a direction of what I should look for in a new Cabinet?

Are you talking about wanting to get a new computer case and then transfer all parts over to the new one? How is that any easier then just replacing the power supply in your current one? Looks like there may be some proprietary cables in the lenovo case that won't be able to be reused. You got a round cable going to a light blue 6 pin connector, not sure what that is for. With the bottom connections, looks like 2 sata cables and the first one may be the front panel connections. The third and fourth connectors have no idea. I think if you try buying a new case and transferring things over you'll will have a major headache trying to figure out what to do with those connectors. You've also got a wireless card in there and you would have to figure out where to attach those wires. If you give me the model of the motherboard, may be able to figure out exactly what all those connections are for down there.

Hmm. The new power supply is just fully modular compared to the current one... Also, the wires in the current one go behind the cabinet (See image)

Regarding the motherboard : Its an Intel H170

So again, in that third pic its the same design as the image I posted. Those aren't normal cables, they won't work with a brand new case. Those 2 red connectors, what are they attached to on the case?

In the last picture, those are proprietary cables, you will not be able to switch cases unfortnately.

But is it not possible to switch PSU then?

About the red ones, can't really see what they are attached to...

Also don´t really get why I can't put the current motherboard into a new cabinet?

If I buy new CPU coolers and stuff like that, wouldn't it be doable?

Yes providing the original psu doesn't have any special connectors for the motherboard or hardware.

Because your new case won't have the exact same cables your current case has and you won't be able to connect everything needed.

No

Haha, I think I have taken on a bigger project than first anticipated...

No clue whatsoever which cables I should leave in the cabinet and which ones to remove. Mainly cuz I can't see the cables behind the metal plate in the back...

If the other side comes off then it's meant to. That's how they ran the cables like that.

Can it really be true that the fan in the PSU should be facing downwards in the cabinet?

Also, can I use the PCI-E wire for my graphic card?

If the bottom of the case under the psu has a filter then you want the fan facing down.

The graphic card will need the connector that has either a 6 or 6+2 pin connector on it. Don't confuse the 6+2 connector with the 4+4 motherboard connector

Okay - So I have some follow up questions:

1. I have a connecter with 6+2 pins - can I use that for the graphics card?

2. Should I replace the new SSD Samsung 870 500gb with my current SSHD 1 tb card? - There is only one cable for this available....

3. Is this enough room under my desktop and a big enough filter under it?'
Room under:

Yes

No. The Samsung SSD will outperform the SSHD. That case should have enough room to where you can use velcro to attach the ssd somewhere if you don't have an 2.5 to 3.5 adapter or a dedicated spot for it in the case. Your power supply should have enough power cables to add the 1tb drive as a storage drive. If you don't have a sata data cable then you can always but one. Make sure the motherboard has an open sata port though.
3. Is this enough room under my desktop and a big enough filter under it?
Yes for both. Where do you keep your case at? As long as its not set on thick carpet you are good.
