I purchased a dell xps 400 july 2007. I would like to use more then the two internal HDDs that the case supports. my question is: is there a case that I can purchase to transfer the xps 400 components into?

- I would perfer not to use external HDD - space and power issues
- xps 400 meets current computing needs so don't need to or want build new pc
- if possible transferring cases would be less expensive then a NAS or type Drobo device

Just be aware that the Dell XPS 400 is a BTX form factor motherboard. The cases posted above are ATX. I have had the same model for my daughters computer for about 3 years now. Not just any old case will work for the upgrade. Newegg only sells 3 cases that can be used with a BTX form motherboard.

They sell some really small external hard drives these days. They are also USB powered so you don't have to plug them into the wall or anything. For the price and trouble of transferring the case, an external might be some thing to re think. You will have to also buy another CPU cooler if you change cases. The Dell XPS 400 has the fan kinda built in the case....I just looked at my daughters and I have no idea how you would ever get that to work in another case.

* Cheapest BTX case is $100 and it can only hold 2 hard drives also....that sucks:(
* Thermaltake Armor can take BTX motherboards and 6 hard drives but it will also cost you $169 without shipping:(

My best advice......get a nice small, cheap and USB powered external drive......that will save money and a headache:)

thanks for all the advise.....after looking at the prices for a decent BTX case I think I will just spend a little extra and get a external USB and perhaps new router with USB port
