I'm building a new computer. i picked out some parts from newegg. the parts i picked out are the only ones i need (motherboard, power supply, processor, memory, and graphics card). i have a budget of $750. So if anyone can tell me if made good choices or not that'd be great.

Well, everything looks good but judging your mobo and cpu I suppose you are going to want to play games right? If so, I would recommend getting a better videocard. The best bang for the buck right now is the 8800GT cheaper and better than the 8800GTS, and close to the 8800GTX performance-wise.

And the PSU is ok, it will run the 8800GT. I also have a 500W and Im planning to get the 8800GT too.

Hope that helped!

What will you be using the computer for ?

Do you need an Hard drive disk, a dvd burner ?

You probably do not need a SLI mobo and as the other guy said, depending on what you do, the 8600GT may not be your best bet. Not sure you'd need 4gb of RAM, usually 2gb is plenty. Not sure why you want to go the AMD route, its definitively not bad, but right now Intel has the upper hand.

Tell us more and we'll say more.

yes i plan on using it for some gaming. kilauea, like i said before, what i listed is all i need. i already have the rest. its tough to find a decent mobo thats not sli... if you know of one please point it out to me because i don't really plan on using sli. also, i wasn't sure on how much memory to get. i want this system to last for a while so i decided on 4 Gb of memory planning for the future. because if i get 2 Gb of memory i'll need 2 1 Gb sticks to get the better performance. make sense? or is that a stupid idea?

ramodkk i'm trying not to spend too much money on this system.... like i already said i have a budget of $750. those 8800 cards ran near $300 from what i saw, i don't want to spend that much on a card.... so if there's an 8800 gt card for under $200 (which i doubt you'll find) then please point that out to me.

thanks

here's one in dell for 235$ but highly doubt you can find one for under 200 or at least the 512mb, maybe for the 256mb which will be release in like a month, if you're in a budget just get the HD 3850

MB: GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
This is the latest chipset for AMD, but with crossfire instead

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADX6400CZWOF - Retail This is better.

RAM: 2 GB is probably enough.
A-DATA Extreme Edition 2 x 1GB DDR2 800 ADQVD1A16K
Choosing this mainly due to the price

GPU: ATI HD3850 or 8800GT
PSU: Antec EA500 is fine. And here is some of the other option:
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W PSU
COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro 550 RS-550-ACAA-A1

By the way, I personally like Intel set up than AMD at the moment.
MSI P35 Neo2-FR LGA / Gigabyte P35 DS3L + Q6600/ E6750

ok well after researching a little bit i decided the intel system would be better. its sad to see AMD falling apart like this. so here's what i picked out. tell me if i can improve anything with a budget of ~750-800. i only need a power supply, motherboard, processor, memory, and video card.

You can't really save alot of money like that, just keep the case and you can have a spare system... Best way.

Here is a decent processor, motherboard and memory:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 Allendale 2.4 gigahertz socket LGA 775 Processor - $150

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L Socket LGA 775 Motherboard - $98

OCZ Platinum Revision 2 gigabytes (2 x 1 gigabyte) 240-Pin PC2-6400 Dual Channel Kit - $78

That's... Not even in his budget range... $750-$800... My last post... I'd go with that, Q6600, P35-DS3L, and Patriot Extreme Performance :)

Isn't the Intel Quad Core processor a little out of your price range? Your G.Skill memory choice looks good but I have heard nothing about EVGA motherboards.

I would go with the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard.

amazingly even with that processor i'm still in my price range.... do the math. i was shooting for $750-$800 and the total there is roughly $710. the motherboard was the hardest thing for me to pick out... its the part i'm the most unsure about. but whats so great about that gigabyte board that everyone keeps suggesting it to me?

Gigabyte is known for making good quality motherboards. If I would have known I would have gone with a Gigabyte over Foxconn motherboard. I can definitely recommend you stay away from Foxconn.

My first Foxconn motherboard fried within 45 days of ownership. I returned it under warranty and got another Foxconn. It can't run my memory at PC-3200 speeds without crashing. I have to run my memory at PC-2700 speeds.

yeha i would say go with a gigabyte mobo. except the evga 680i are really good mobos IMO.

if i had the money i would get one.
