i recently built two identical computers one for me and one for my dad one started up fine loaded vista and the drivers but the other one wouldnt let me load vista so i checked all the connections pulled to cpu out to make sure it was in properly (it was) put it back in and it turns on for a few seconds then shuts off so i wondered if it was a fried mb so i pull the other computer apart and put the possibly bad MBs in it and it does the same thing so i figured it had to be the mb so i switch it back and now the computer that was working starts up for a few seconds then shuts off but before it shuts off a screen pops up saying overlocking failure... so now im lost

after it didnt work i took it out for a wial and it still did it when i started the comp it said cmos WRONG! or press f2 to load default settings so i did that it keeps loading then shuts off

You make sure the motherboard isn't touching the case, are the brass standoff's placed correctly?

I'd try that, when I first built the rig in my sig, I was really worried because it didn't start up at all... Took it all out, put it on a foam mat, set it all up out of the case and it working, just make sure you only have as many standoffs as you need, don't put more in.

Or if he even put standoffs...

yes i used the standoffs what about the little chrome piece that the monitor and keboard and stuff connect to in the back if thats touching would it do anything

No the I/O backplate has nothing to do with it... Try doing as Kornowski did and take it outta it's case.. If that does not do it I suggest RMAing the motherboard. PC Specs?

the problem with the shorting out was that i used to many standoffs thanks for your help on that but im still running into the problem i had with the 1st computer i get a screen that says windows loading not the normal one that always comes up but another one and then a blue screen that says there is a hardware problem

Have you checked bios to see if the cpu/ram is running at the correct fequency? also make sure the heatsink isn't on wrong causing some overheating

This can be caused by some hardware conflicts....
But it's shurely can be undersdoot if you write what does the blue screen tells =)

the blue screen says a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
an attempt was made to execture to non-executable memory.

if this is the firs time uve seen this stop erroer screen restart ur comp. if this screen appears again, follow these steps

chech to make sure any new hard ware or software is properly installed if this is a new installation ank ur hardware or software manu 4 any windows updates u might need

if the problems continue , disable or remove any newly installed hardware or sftware disable bios memory options such as chacing or shadowing if you need to use safe mode press f8 then select safe mode
