New Comp

I'm building a new system but i want to keep what i can of the old one. Is it even worth it to keep 184 pin memory anymore? I have two 512 Mb sticks of it. I also have a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1.8GHz Socket 939 Processor and i can't decide whether i should get rid of it or continue using it for a little while longer. Any advice on that would be great. I do know that i will be needing a new mobo and a new graphics card. I want build an AMD system and i don't care about having SLI. So, with an $800 budget should i be able to build a decent system if i replace my memory and processor or should i keep them? and suggestions on what parts to but would be awesome too.
 
if you are getting a new mobo....ur basically gonna HAVE to get a new Processor anyway.....AND new RAM...so you shouldn't keep ur old stuff...and $800 is more than enough to build a capable rig
 
About all you could use would be your DVD drives. MAYBE your hard drives, but most boards now only have one IDE connection on them...

ok that looks great but would i be able to get much better stuff if i didn't get a case. i already have a case to use so i could save a lot of money there i think. i also don't want any new optical drives or hard drives until i absolutely have to get them.

If the hard drive you have is ide, then yes you will need to get a new hard drive mostly because ide are old,slow and their cables don't let the air flow compare to a sata hard drive
 
ok everyone... since you all are here helping this guy with his computer... I was hoping you could give me advice on biulding a new one for myself. I have an old Dell inspiron 5150 laptop, and its been ok, but not one for gaming AT ALL. So I have around 800-900 dollars for a COMPLETELY new rig. I need advice and suggestions. I want it to be intel, cause I feel they are more stable, and I want it to be fully upgradeable in the years to come. Is that even possible?? If ya all could give me some suggestions or ideas for a rig that would be AWESOME!

for a suggestion go to the first page of this post and look at Ramodkk's suggestion...it's $803 and Intel (althought i disagree with u about stablility...but that's just me)

as far as being "fully upgradeable"....any PC can be classified as "fully upgradeable" cuz u can change essentially anything out of an old PC...but as far as a few years dwon the road (4 or 5) u WILL need to get a enw system to allow for use wiht all current technologies

If you look at Ramodkk's suggestion change out the parts for the ones Chupacabra suggested, also if you do that build you might want to get this RAM instead as it has a lower CAS latency http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211174

hmmm ok thats look good, will it run current games?? and will it have the ability to run games in say a year or two...any suggestions on a monitor
 
i would suggest the e6320 core 2 duo because of the 4mb cache. The rosewill psu is good, i dont know why people are changing it. I have one and it works like a dream. Use the ram that SSX suggested.
