Alright, I'm going to get a new computer at about $1200 USA
I've been playing around at cyberpowerpc and I've come up with these, what do you think? It's mainly for gaming, preferebly counterstrike:source. What I'm worried about is that the cpu or graphics card might heat, or I don't have enough watts on my psu...

Well I would definitly go with the 1st one. Then I would also build it myself.

I didnt see anything about a seperate PSU, but the ones that come in cases usually arent very good.

Yeah I upped it to a 500 Watt, I dunno... Well I just don't wana go through all the hastle of making my own computer, besides, I don't know how to make a computer. You think the first one is better? I read somewhere that the 4200+ amd X2 is not needed, I dunno...

1. Watts dont really matter, can you post some specs to the PSU?

2. If your gaming, the AMD processor is definitly better

3. We can help you build your computer here, along with tons of tutorials on the internet.

4. The 4200+ is fine.

Well I just googled it and this is what I came up with:

NZXT PF500 500WATT PERFORMANCE POWER ATX 2.0 POWER SUPPLY
Specification

AC INPUT 115V ~ 10A 60Hz 230V ~ 5A 50Hz (+3.3V & + 5V Total 250W)
DC OUTPUT +3.3V +5V +12V1 +12V2 -12V +5VSB
MAX A. 34A 40A 16A 17A 0.8A 2.5A

NZXT PF-500 500 Watt Power Supply

Specification:
Type: ATX
Maximum Power: 500W
PFC: No
Power Good Signal: Not specified
Hold-up Time: Not specified
Efficiency: 70% Min. at full load
Over Voltage Protection: On all outputs
Overload Protection: On all outputs
Input Voltage: 115/230

And about the building a computer, I don't know... I'm just really lazy lol..

Ok that PSU is definitly sufficent.

If you wanna be lazy, then its your money.

Alright, I'll think about it... So where can I start? And should I just go to newegg to get the stuff?

Yea newegg definitly has the best prices. You can start by pricing out something on newegg for the same price and seeing which comes out to be cheaper.

Omfg!!! I Did Everything And Then It Came Up With An Stupid Error And My Post Was Cleared!! Worked 30 Min On That Thing!!! T.t!!!

Edit: Yeah, though I found out that it's cheaper, but I don't find a HUGE difference like about 100-200$ difference... Lol

100-200 is significant. That can be the difference between an X2 3800+ and an X2 4400+.

I would get it from newegg.

Intel's aren't bad:

The difference between the X24400 and the Pentium D 940 are very minimal

I wipped together the same parts, but from newegg. the total came to $1200 as well.

But there are alot of things i would choose to get instead, like not get that $120 case (i think its ugly, but thats just me), i would also get a better mouse if your a gamer.

They are very good for the price, but the AMD X2 does perform better in games.

Quake 4 isnt the best game to determine what cpu is better, since that game relies more on the gpu than the cpu. As you can see that the FPS difference is only around 1-5fps. If you bench it on farcry, the difference is much greater.

Build you own, because you dont want to cheap out on the video just to get an AMD, that would only perform worse in gaming.

True, but if the intention is gaming & money is present, then theres little reason not to grab an X2. AMD has the advantage in this area du to their memory controller. Intel is better suited if the budget is lower.

That clears things up.

Let's not try to selectively leave out certain data to sway general opinion on this subject.

It would probabaly just be better to give people a link to the article, so you can see all the results, instead of just that one graph.
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/03/22/intel_pentium_ee_965/1.html

Although, I must give Tweaker credit for hosting that graph on his site, instead of leeching Bit-Tech's bandwidth. Quite admirable of him.

Then we consider this fact, you just want to run CS:source on this machine? Well considering I ran that on a 500Mhz Pentium III-E Processor with a 20gb HDD and a GF FX5200 Card at Full everything and had a decent framerate... I'm pretty sure you aren't gonna have much trouble with ANY machine you pick... heh heh ;).

Thankfully, I have upgraded 3 times since then.

How is that even possible? I guess decent framerates means different things to different people.
