New computer advice :)

Hey guys, ive been reading these forums for a while now just browsing the 101 posts etc trying to expand upon my knowledge (or lack thereof) of computers. Anyway, at this point in time I dont feel like I could make a good decision on what kind of computer to get for my price range. So I finally decided to register and see what you guys think.

First of all, I don't think that I would be able to build the computer for myself, however if it is going to be a lot cheaper I may have a friend who can build it for me.

Second, I am into some gaming; World of Warcraft, Counter Strike, internet games, etc. so I would like a computer that can run these very smoothly and look nice. I also have a lot of music etc. but mostly the computer will be used for games, internet, and basic word processing etc.

Finally, my budget is from 1-2 thousand USD.

Thanks in advance if you are able to help me. I should check every day or so to see if anyone has replied :D

For what you listed you don't need $2000, you could probably get one for about $1400, also this is just the computer itself. Not the monitor, etc.

This is what I would do:

Case:http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24122&vpn=P182&manufacture=ANTEC

Power Supply:http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18184&vpn=OCZ600GXSSLI&manufacture=OCZ Technology

HSF (If you are going to overclock, if not then the stock HSF will do) :
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=21340&vpn=CNPS9700-LED&manufacture=ZALMAN TECH

DVD Writer:http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24649&vpn=SH-S203B/BEBN&manufacture=Samsung

Hard Drive (I perfer any Western Digital or Seagate, also pick the size that you would like. But I pick 750GB):http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=26383&vpn=WD7500AACS&manufacture=Western Digital

RAM: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=25228&vpn=TWIN2X4096-6400C5&manufacture=CORSAIR

MOBO: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=26284&vpn=GA-P35-DS4&manufacture=Gigabyte

CPU: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27784&vpn=BX80570E8400&manufacture=Intel

Video Card: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27877&vpn=100226&manufacture=SAPPHIRE

or

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27478&vpn=256-P3-N791-AR&manufacture=eVGA

Around $1350 Without tax or shipping.

Counter strike and World of Warcraft are not very demanding games, so this my be alittle much but can give you some room if you need it.

OPS LOL, but other then that did I pass on giving a person a build for my first time. :P:o

OH AND CANADIAN POWER!!!;)

ha ha. The GPU should've been the 512MB model. The mobo was too much for a P35 chipset. The DS3L would've been suitable. Everything else looked good, IMO.

I actually had to double check to see if I gave the 256MB model by accident, I did think I listed the 512MB version so my fault.

But thanks for the info, the more I learn the more I think I can help. :)

wow! thanks for the rapid responses. Anyway, if i was to build the machine myself, do you think someone with such limited computer knowledge could handle it? Looks really good though I am very tempted to go with this build, thanks reddevil and everyone that had input.

oh, and than I would need Windows Vista or similar OS... what does that run usually? would I need anything else besides a monitor or would that cover it?

Nice build.

But I personally prefer GA-X38-DS4 than Asus P5E
and Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS than Western Digital Caviar GP WD5000AACS
