New computer and old HDD

Dear group,

Hi...everyone, my name is Jeeva and I'm new to this forum.

My question is who can I go about in installing an old HDD to a new computer that I'm about to set-up. This old HDD is going to be the primary HDD for my new computer.

FYI, this old HDD has W2k OS on it and after installing the HDD I'd like to install Windows XP.

Appreciate if someone would advise.

Thank you.

Regards,
Jeeva

Just install the old HD into the new computer, start up the system and boot up with the WinXP in the CD. During install it'll ask you in you want to repair or install. Click install and make sure you format it too. NTFS selection would be best.

Hold up, LE's suggestion would erase all the data off the HDD, and the way I read the question, Jeeva wants to keep all the data. I would recommend to boot with the old HDD instaleld and the WinXP cd in CD drive. Choose install and DO NOT format.

if he put the old hard drive into his new computer, it wont boot since all the hardware is different.

I didnt see that he wanted to keep his old data. I thought he was asking if WinXP would work on his HD with Win2K on it. Which it will.
