Check the power supply connections, and make sure nothing is short circuiting (the mb. isnt touching the case, etc.) Try booting to a cd, like windows

As Lynx said, check the power connectors to make sure that everything is plugged in and plugged in correctly. Also make sure that you used the motherboard stands (gold screws) so the motherboard isnt touching the case. Make sure your components are plugged in the correct way.

If nothing else works, it could be a defective power supply or defective motherboard.

i used the mobo stand screw things, ill check and see if its touching anywhere though, and ill check all my connections again.

hmm, can yo even get into the BIOS at all?? have you cleared the CMOS (some boards require you to do this before it will boot at all) also, strip the system down, remove non essential hard disks as well as optical drives, take out things like network cards and sound cards, run it on 1 stick of RAM (alternate between sticks to see if one is defective).

Remeber, you dont kow what the prblem is, so its time to start whittling down the shoices, one more thing removed is one less thing that the problem could be.

At the moment im leaning towards a dead motherboard, but its still early days

you should get a psu tester, or search google if you want to jump your psu to test it. On another thought, check that your cpu is secure and properly placed.

next time, go for a well branded PSU-

Hiper, Enermax, Targan ect....

Generic jobbies will be the death of us all!!! LoL-

Try taking out the "Watch Battery" and pulling out the jumper next to it. Leave them both out for 1 minute then replace everything as it was originally. Make sure you do all of this without any power cord connected to your psu. If that doesn't work its a defective hardware product.
