New Computer Build - Suggestions

Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)

GPU - SAPPHIRE 100283-3L Radeon HD 5770
PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
Monitor - ASUS VH198T Black 19"
Case - COOLER MASTER Elite 430 RC-430-KWN1
Windows - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

This is the list of components I came up with after doing some looking. I have build one computer in the past about 5 years ago so I am catching up.

This computer is to be a budget built but with future ability to upgrade. The computer will be used for online gaming and also for adobe suite programs (photoshop, illustrator, etc...)

Please review and if you can give any suggestions to any part of this list that would not work together, could save money, or could spend just a few bucks more for better please let me know your thoughts!

Looks pretty solid, but I think we can improve it quite a bit. This build is $870 shipped, so I'm guessing your budget was either $850 or $900, including the monitor and Windows?
 
Yes pretty much going to need the windows...the monitor is up in the air I got an old LCD monitor that isn't widescreen but lets keep the idea that the monitor is there...

*edit* I have been trying to build a solid computer for around $500 but I said screw it so now I am going to be looking into the 12-months no interest!
 
Well I wasn't questioning weather or not you should get those items, it's just that some people give a budget but only mean to include the tower, and count the OS and Monitor separately...I was just truing to be clear. :good:

So how much are you looking to spend on all of that? I'm assuming around what the build int he OP costs? Would you like to trim that down, or is there some leeway in there? The reason I ask is that there's almost always a better part somewhere that's only like $10-$20 away. In your build, that'd be the CPU and the case.

Around the price range I have it at now is really pushing it at the moment. I would really hate to see $900 and will cry at $1000. Plus after the rebates on the list provided its down to like $750 but I don't put a lot of hope into the rebates.

So lets try and keep it where its at $800-$900..

Pretty much what I see here it will play any online game mainly Eve online on decent settings without much lag. And will definitely run adobe suites.

But my main concern is future upgrades. Such as the mobo choice. Later on I can just pop in another video card and run crossfire at 2x16 instead of 2x8 and without buying a $250 or $300 card. I never plain to run 3 or 4 cards at a time though.

The cpu is the best I saw for the buck except for the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808 which is the next level up at quad core...which I am considering.

So the past few minutes I've decided to post pone the purchase of a monitor and just use my old LCD monitor...so lets scratch that off the list!

Alrighty, so we're targeting $800, minus the cost of windows, so $700 for hardware? That's very doable. I'll have a build up in a few minutes. I'm not going to put much stock into rebates unless they're particularly large, since they usually take a while to come back.

Quesiton: How much RAM do you think you'll use in the editing programs?

Also, do you plan on overclocking?
 
Without a monitor this comes in at $809.92 and theres $90 of mail in rebates, so i guess its like $719.92 but gives the ability to crossfire with only adding a card and no other upgrades. Window 7 OEM will add another $100 on to this, theres also room to knock the price down in this build if need be.

The mobo and PSU will support a second 6850 later on, and the CPU will be a beast in your editing programs. :good:

This has a VERY good upgrade path. Starting with what 's there:
Second 6850 -> AM3+ FX mobo -> Third 6850 -> Bulldozer CPU

Granted, you'll have to locate one of the non-reference 6950's with two crossfire bridges to do 3 GPU's, but still...that'll last you a long time.

Both are GREAT builds I like Sslagle Asus mobo choice my favorite! But Drenlin looks to have really nailed it head on. Six cores, AMD 890FX and great graphics!

Thank you for your assistance you really blew my setup away and from now on I am going to half and look at the combo deals....now where are they....hah.

Now I got to ask this though. I am always looking to save money and I am willing to spend the $850 for this build but not under a good though of mind. But for what I am asking of this computer adobe suite, online gaming and the ability to be upgraded this is probably the right price range..going down to like $500-$600 would probably not be worth it?

$600 including windows would be a pretty big drop in both performance and upgrade potential. However, you could still game and edit on it fairly well, you just couldn't game at the same settings or render things as quickly. If you really don't want to spend the extra cash, though, this is what I'd do:

This will give you the option to add a second 5770 at some point. I tried to get it under $600 shipped, but I couldn't...I hope the rebates are ok?
 
On the $850 build.

I am wondering whats up with there being AMD GPUs and ATI GPUs...whats the story here?

Did some looking on pricewatch and found windows XP for $50 bucks which is kind of what I was looking for. Didn't really want to half to get windows 7. I am going to base my purchase off the components you choose for the $850 build and probably keep everything on the list but am going to see what I may find on pricewatch.

AMD bought ATI, and eventually changed the name...it's still the same company. :good:

Believe me, you don't want XP on a modern build. It lacks a LOT of features compared to 7. It's bad for gaming especially, since it doesn't support DirectX 10 or 11, but it's also a lot less secure and stable.

Plus, it loses all support in 2014, so you'll have to buy an new OS then anyway.
