New Computer Build?

Hey guys, my friend asked me to help her put together a computer, and i agreed seeing its nothing fancy....shes just doing normal things like movies, cds, mp3s, word processing and the normal websurfing. So I need you guys to suggest a nice setup for her. The on board video card i'm sure would do, but if you guys could make a nice setup for like $500-600....(she has operating system and stuff, just need hardware)

Worried about upgrading it later on, or is it OK for some of the parts to be discontinued?

A budget computer that won't be upgraded normally could easily be SocketA or S754 (s754 being the better of the 2.) But SocketA is dirt cheap and ift will definetly be fine for what she needs. Heck i play pretty recent games and I'm still on a SocketA.

Look at my signature, that's easily a $500 computer (minus the RAM, thats a $200 kit of RAM i won lol.) So just get some 512MB-1GB PC3200 value RAM instead. That will be more than what she needs and still be somewhat gaming worthy im sure. And you can judge how big of a HDD she needs of course.

If it's just for the normal everyday stuff, I hate to say it, but that $300 Dell is the way to go. You won't find a much better deal than that for just listening to music and surfing the net. $300 for everying, including OS, monitor, and everything is as good as you'll get.

Does this include monitor/keyboard/speakers/mouse/and printer? If it doesn't, sugggest looking at emachines t6410, only $499 at compusa.com
