i just ordered these components today, how do you think it will standup in the coming year or two?

cpu: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester
MB: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939
Video Card: eVGA 256-P2-N555-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB
Memory: Corsair XMS 512x2 with 2-3-2-5 timings
HD: WD 80 gig 10,000 RPM
Monitor: SAMSUNG 997mb 19"
Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WBC
PSU: Rosewill RP 500

if u want it more future proof i would get a athlon 4200+ (yes i know you can overclock the 3800+ blah blah .2Ghz higher...to 2.2GHz the 4200+, but u can also overlock the 4200+ .2GHz to 2.4GHz...)

and also i would recomend getting either 1GB (one stick of it because it will have more space for upgrade) or just get 2x1gb...

Your videocard is the weak part in that setup, just upgrade it if and when the day comes when you start to experience slow gameplay. Next thing would be the RAM.

i dont think that its weak by any means, i have the 7600 gs pcix and i get like 200 fps on source...and the gt is like 50% faster than the gs

i may be wrong but i dont think that it will hold him down at all

I said it was the weakest part along with the memory. The video is whats gonna have to be replaced first in that machine (in time for gaming purposes). He asked for longevity.

I agree with tweaker, the video card will have to be upgraded first, then the memory. Also, an 80GB hard drive might not last forever (in size).
