I recently bought a used tower with everything included except for a video card and HDD which I supplied myself video card being my old one and hdd brand new. After setting everything up it ran smoothly for awhile but now suffers from random freezing, it doesn't blue screen just freezes on my current window sometimes with the sound stuttering. I've tested out the video card and hdd in another computer with it not crashing so I'm starting to be convinced it's the motherboard can someone confirm or help my theory before I go and waste money? Also have switched out RAM btw.

Operating system win7
graphics card ATI radeon hd 5770
Hdd: seagate 1tb
ram: DDR2 8gb
Quad core proc 2.4 3.00 ghz
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q or P5K
any other information needed just ask

i think the mobo just has boot time diag enabled for the bios settings stuff, does it look like it's just scanning what's connected like it shows the ram and the cpu and a ton of other numbers and stuff, that's what that is then, otherwise idk. it might help to reinstall your gfx card's drivers and all, also to do some defragging and maintnance if you haven't done that stuff lately.

Yeah it's just scanning things like the cpu ram ect things connected.

Really you think drivers could be causing this? Like it could be fine for the longest time then freeze randomly where I need to pull the power from it to get it back on.

I would not just pull the power plug. Try holding in the power button for over 4 seconds, it should just turn off. Could be a driver or maybe a heat problem, have you checked your temps on the video card and processor?

Tried it, cold shut off was the only viable option.

I just installed new drivers after you guys suggested it and rebooted it so we'll see if that helps, also temps are completely fine.

Yes, tried that and my computer just froze when I had alot of things running whenever I'm watching a stream lately seems to prompt it SEEMS LIKE IT not certain that's the cause.

Any other suggestions? Like could it be the motherboard?

Same thing happened to my new build; the hard drive was giving the issue. There are programs online (crystalmark.info or google another software) that will tell you if the hard drive if failing.

Have you tried booting into a diagnostic tool like hiren's and running test? I would try that, first run a cpu/videon/ram test and let it run for a while see if it freezes. If you don't have a hiren's disk you can get what you need HERE. Please let us know the result :) good luck.
