new computer installation

I have a problem. I have just bought all parts for my computer im creating and they all seem to work fine - you know lights come on and drives sound like they are working. When i try to install win xp it comes up saying there is no drive avaliable etc etc (Im not really fussed with win xp at the moment).. So i messed around with it a bit a got the BIOS to find 8.4 gig but not the rest (its a 200gig western digital drive). The motherboard i have is one of the latest around from intel (D925XECV2) with a pentium 4 3.0gig hertz and 1 gig of ram. Whats really strange is that on the mobo there is no 2ndary IDE controller. Strange!?

I have checked the jumpers a million times and cables but am stuck! I have also try to format it but that doesnt work and have also tryed the westerne digital software, which of cource doesnt work.
Has any one got any answers?

What devices do you have on the pata connection. Do you have just one harddrive or do you have a harddrive and a cd drive? If you have both which one do you have set as master?

If you just have one the harddrive should be set to master
if you have both the harddrive have to be the master not the cd drive.
 
I have a DVD recorder drive along with the harddrive (on the same cable). and the hd is set as master with slave present and the drive is set on slave.
it all seems too look ok.....

Have you tryed getting it to work without the dvd drive. I know this not a soloution but at least we would know what causing the problem if it worked.

edit: I just relize you cant test windows without the cd drive but at least you could see if bios sees it correctly

This is a possiable solution I found on the intel site that applys to your board

Run the BIOS setup program and make sure the drive and the controller are enabled. Also, make sure the drive has the correct parameters; most likely you can try the auto detect feature

I couldnt find any thing wrong with the BIOS setup - all seems to be enabled. Does any one know what elce could be wrong with it? :confused: I really dont want to have to take it in to a computer shop and pay $70 per hour.

Whats the "BIOS SETUP PROGRAM". Is that just the bios in config mode or normal?

Thats the setup/confiuguration thingy that you can enter when you power up your computer :)

Are you dealing with SATA, PATA or both drives?
