Hey i just had my old Dell XPS laptop break down after 1 year of having it (yay dell...) and i decided to get a new computer.. I didnt want to wait for the parts to build it so i decided to go to bestbuy and try and find a decent computer.

at first i saw this nice acer with an orange and black case with an I7 chip and 12 gigs of ram with 4850 ATI card. But that one was sold out when i got there because they said it was such a good deal people swarmed to get it.

So i looked around and decided to settle for this other acer (with not as sexy case but with decent specs)

Specs:
8 Gigs ram

Geforce GTS240 2gb Ram (not familiar with this card any comments?)

1TB hard drive

I7-860 CPU (apparently they make 8 cores now?? haha)

Here is a link to the computer : http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodd...=0926INGFS10132454&catid=20217&test_cookie=1#

I have been an AMD user my whole life...however...I would switch in a heartbeat, if I had the Cash, for an i7 Chip. You've got a kill machine there my friend...however...Im a gamer, and I like Flare. Get rid of the case and get yourself a new one ;) Other than that...great set-up.

That GPU is an OEM product, not retail, which is probably why you're not familiar with it. http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gts_240_us.html

And as with all pre-built computers, that PSU is going to just get you by, probably not even. If you don't want to build one yourself, try to just throw in a more branded power supply if you have some more money.

Power Supply-----450W (Peak 500W)

Why will the psu not be able to handle when im playing games and stuff... What could be the result just overload or what?

Ya i checked the specs for the card it looks alright the 2GB sure helps alot just dedicated to video haha

You're power supply should be fine. It is low quality which is never recommended, but dell is not going to include a PSU that can't run the machine. How long it will last there is no telling, the more a load is put on it the less time it has.

If it blows it could just be the PSU, or it could take the whole or some of the PC with it. Usually if it takes anything a majority of the time it is the hard drive, or motherboard. This is only from my experience but it can be any or all components.

Oh wow, I didnt even look at all the specs. As a Gamer, I have a 750 Watt PSU. I just blew my 650 because I had too much hardware for it to handle. Today, whether you are a gamer or not, you want AT LEAST 500watts, 600 peak. Im amazed that thing only came with a 450 considering some of the hardware thats in there. My guess is, they want you to bring it back and buy more stuff. That PSU you have in there is the very BARE MINIMUM needed to run all that. I would go for atleast a 600 watt.

He has already bought the computer so suggesting parts is useless at this point. It's not a bad PC all I suggest is that he upgrade the PSU in the future and upgrading the GPU wouldn't be a bad idea either.
