New Computer, not so impressed..

It was bought from a person who Builds New PC's as a hobbie. For the $300 dollars it was just the tower and the CD's to go with it. It has windows xp Pro. and i was asked if i wanted vista. but was told xp pro was more suitable for gaming. Forgetting to Mention it was Orig. $350, I just asked him if he would take $300

I was looking to spend around $500 on a new system. But i decided to check Craigslist
and found a guy who builds around 12 new pc's a month and sells them as a hobbie.
I went to the guy, tested out the pc and it was good to go. I didnt want to break the bank and wanted something i could upgrade later if i wanted to.

BTW do you have XP or Vista?

Alright so I called the Alienware Tech support and I worked it out so if i sent it in they would give me this proc.-
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB and this MOBO- Alienware® Approved NVIDIA® nForce® 790i Ultra SLI™ Motherboard
Includes PCI-Express 2.0, DDR3 Memory, and Support for Intel 1600 FSB
would this be worth it for a few extra $'s? and I noticed it said Nvidia approved and what not would this affect me having a ATI graphics card?

Thats a pretty sweet Set-up, that technology would not be so quickly outdated as the previous system you had. Big Plus on the 2.0 slot. if the extra $$ wasnt a big hit in the wallet i would go for it.

I also have nvidia motherboard, and have asked the same question. I was told an ATI card will work with it, the only issues that have come up with set-ups like that are involving driver issues. like drivers clashing i guess...

again..this is what i was told from asking the question on different sites, so definetely take another opinion on this.

Good luck, Btw your current system seems pretty sweet, Nice vidcard. I just think with the money you paid you definitely deserve a faster processor/+ram.

"AMD® Athlon™ X2 5200+ 2.7GHz Dual Core 2 x 512KB L2 Cache
not bad "
didn't the P3 450 mhz, have a 512 L2? circa 1998
ps, I realize it was 1/2 speed
I have socket A system with 2 gb of ram
