I have been doing some research on the monitors mentioned in this thread as I am in need of a monitor myself. I narrowed it down to 4 monitors, but i don't know how one would pick from these four.
1) Dell sp2309W (on sale now for $225) - 23" (not mentioned but had good reviews)
2) Asus MS238H - 23"
3) Acer H243Hbmid - 24"
4) ASUS VW246H - 24"
Personally I was leaning toward either monitor 1 or 2 but I've read some good things about about 3 and 4. All monitors have hdmi, vga and dvi inputs.
The Dell monitor (1) has great ergonomic features; it spins, is height adjustable and pivots. The Dell monitor also had a larger resolution (2048 x 1152). The one back draw to this monitor is the slight backlight bleeding along the bottom edge.
Monitor 2 is LED back lit. Very nice for a monitor within this cost range. Supposed to have great picture but has a crappy stand (this stupid ring things on the back). I've read some complaints about backlight bleeding on this monitor too, but it's suppose to be very slight. It claims to have a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. Which is total BS, but none-the-less the LED backlighting does allow it to have a better dynamic contrast ratio then the other monitors.
Monitor 3 has been a little hard to research but from what I can find, very good things have been said. Great colour, decent stand and it is 24" rather then the previous 2 which are both 23". I have read a bit about the picture 'flickering' on this display, but they seem few and far between. Possibly just a production error in a few models. I've also read it it has slight uneven backlighting, but nothing that's very noticeable.
Monitor 4 is another 24" and has got some good review for TN LCD screen (which all of this monitors are). One review wrote "noticeable banding and a slight lack of sharpness" but then added "To be honest it's no worse than many TN's and for most needs the image quality could be deemed good enough" So considering the cost and it's size, i'm sure it's image quality would be just as good as any of these other monitors. The same review recommended the 'BenQ M2400HD' if you can dish out a bit more cash.
In addition, each monitor has a response time of 2ms, monitors 1,3,4 have a brightness level of 300cd/m^2 and monitor 2 have 250 cd/m^2. (Though i read that monitor can be too bright at some times.) Also monitor 2,3,4 have a resolution of 1920X1080 while, as i mentioned before, monitor 1 have a resolution of 2048 x 1152. All are 16:9 aspect ratio.
Hope this could help (if at all).
And if anybody else had some input on these monitors, it would sure help me pick a monitor...
