This is what I have come up with for my next gaming computer. I am going to crossfire 2 of the 4890's. With what I have here it puts me really close to my budget. Any thoughts or see anything I should change? I am buying everything from newegg.

Your over doing it with that power supply a 750w or 850w PC Power and Cooling or Corsair will be plenty. Also the motherboard you picked can only do SLI not Crossfire so if you plane on getting two more cards then you will need a Nvidia card instead. That hard drive is crap if your going to get a hard drive the get a Western Digital Caviar Black or a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 the 7200.11 like you have has a very high fail rate I have sent two back myself. You can probably find some better RAM if you look at G-Skill as they are usually better the Corsair and cheaper. Everything else looks pretty good I'm sure somebody else will have something to add.

Fatback is right about the harddrive. Western Digital is the better of the two. Mushkin is also another type of RAM that is worth looking at. Remember that 1333 mhz is the fastest your motherboard will go without tweaking.... also your case could be smaller... thus, usually, cheaper... if you're going to change the video card I suggest you change it to a GTX 275, the 285 isn't worth the money IMO and the 295 is a bit pricey... Unless you plan to upgrade to three cards and lots of cooling get a smaller case.

Ok so this hard drive and power supply.

CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

Now I'm a bit confused on the Motherboard. I thought that it could do both SLI and Crossfire. I would like one that can do both.

That hard drive and PSU is good and your right about the motherboard I was thinking of a different board so looks like your good to go. You do know you can not crossfire a ATI card with a Nvidia card and the other way around and if you have a ATI card in one slot and a Nvidia in another only one of the cards will be used when playing games just making sure you know this.

that will be a nice computer, once built

Yes it will. Personally I would go AMD for a gaming rig because AMD has always been known to perform better in games. Plus the i7 is just to much and there is not really any thing you could do to put it to its full potential. I feel buying the i7 is just a wast of money because you will never be able to use its full power this is just my opinion though.

I agree with this... i7 is definately overpriced based off of impressive benchmarks, but indeed, unless you're using hardware intensive programs, the x86 isn't utilized and the i7 is just a large amount of uselessly spent money... besides the am3 platform holds more uprgarability potential, considering we, as the consumer, don't know what AMD will be producing in the near future... especially since AMD is potentially partnering with GPU giant nvidia due to the Larabee which will increase a overall expiremental basis for hybrid gpu/cpu platforms, which is exciting.

True AMD is far better when it comes to upgrade ability. I think it would be cool if AMD pairs up with Nvidia but Larabee has been thought about for a long time now and has not gone any where yet. Even if Larabee does become a success they are to late for the next gen cards so if we see anything from Intel it will be a while to come.

Never say never. :D

Well as of right now there are only a few thing you can do to put full i7 power to the test. By the time something comes like a game or programs that will need this much power the i7 will be the past and far better CPU's will be available. For gamers and basic computer users I just is the i7 as being overkill but again this is my opinion everybody has there own way of looking at it.

You're right, it is a bit overkill for most users, me included.

But, it's not like it's going to get slower, everything around it will
just get faster. Can't wait to see something blow the i7 away.

Yea I see what your saying the i7 is not going to get worse just over ruled by something more powerful. I for one hope AMD can pull ahead of Intel I just hope when they do they wont charge more for there CPU's like the did 5 or 6 years ago when they where on top.

exactly, which is why one ought to go AMD it is just a matter of time until AMD comes out with something cheaper and faster than the i7

When I first came to this site I was building an AMD computer but everyone seemed to think I should go with the I7. The main thing im looking for is a computer i wont need to upgrade for a long time. Whats better RAM then what I have listed?
