New computer...poweron password?

Just got new computer it is a compaq with a celeron d in it can any one tell me how to set up poweron password so kids cannot get on this computer? I have a pass word that I will not forget so I am not worried about that!
 
If you have Windows just go to user accounts and add a password to your account. Make sure you have guest account turned off. Then everytime start your computer it will ask you for your password when windows starts. You can also set a password in BIOS but I'd recommend just passwording windows.
 
he is talking about a BIOS password which i like b/c if u just use that then u can type it in right away and then walk away to do sumtin while the comp boots up, but the windows password gives greater security from hacker.

so if u want to do the BIOS password, when the comp starts up u will have to puch whatever button it is to enter ur BIOS setting, could be ESC or onf the F# buttons, in there u will find it.
 
Yeah, I guess the BIOS password is a little more secure since you would have to reset the CMOS to clear it.
 
PS: there was a password in their that I created but that only locks out other people from making changes to bios wher is the other pass word located at?

Yeah but windows passwords are easy to break (whereas cases can be physically locked and such :P)

Why does it matter? Its damn near the same in every BIOS....

Take Jumper off

If you don't want the password reset the bios. You can do this by opening the case if its a newer board usually they only have one jumper take it off and put it back on. Just remember to put it back were you had it.
