New Computer specs

Hi, new to this forum. :D
Got a question on a possible computer build. This is supposed to be a balance between extreme multitasking ability with gaming...hence the video card. keyboard/mice/monitor, etc "other silliness" are not included. Its just the innards.
I got a case and 800 watt PSU for free, so I'm all set there.
Here goes the plan...and pleeaaase comment/critique it ;)

I'm loving the new WD 500gb sata drive added here while Seagate is generally a good one. You will have space for multiple partitions as well as capacity. EVGA or BFG would be the preffered make over XFX there for the video card. I run 2gb of Kingston Value Ram at the moment. It's one of the top brands for memory.

For a better cpu cooler for both heavy multitasking like done here along with gaming especially if you plan on ocing any newegg does have one Artic Cooling model for 775 boards to look at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835186134 While newegg seems a little understocked and seeing some prices increased lately another site that specializes in coolers and other products is found at http://www.coolerguys.com/sockettlga775.html

Artic Silver 5 is the one to go with unless you want to try out a newer product called Liquid Pro that is supposed to be better for a thermal compound. AS5 is the obvious better known. For an alternate board with a faster fsb seen but with 6 channel onboard instead of 8 channel audio the Asus model seen here is one to think over. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131142

The Lite-On drive should work out. The preference here have been on Sony models for several years now. Some will ask why not the E6600 for the cpu however.

1. Switch the video card to a 256MB 7600GT, you will get better performance despite the lower video memory. If it will fit in budget, a 7900GS is better still.

2. Personally, I'd go with a Gigabyte 965P-S3 over that MSI board. The price difference will fund the 7900GS purchase.

thanks for all the replies!

PC eye, thanks for the tip on the cpu cooler :)
I'll probably go with the arctic cooling model...didn't know exactly my cooling needs for the cpu.
i don't plan on oc'ing it very much, but better to be safe :P
In terms of the cpu, I may go with the E6600 if I can fit it in.

ceewi1, interesting about the video card :P once I get out of the lab i'll look for a 7900GS, which i remember i saw fairely cheap that should fit.
the thing i don't like about the gigabyte is the lack of firewire, but that should be easily fixed if needed.

PC eye again :P, i like the motherboard

any major things i should look out for in the asus vs the gigabyte?

thanks again!

hmm, I'm lookin around the video card areas...and I'm wondering if I should go take a look at ATi cards....

no go a 7900GS and an DS3, or S3 like pc eye said

everything else looks good. i wouldnt blow more cash on the 6600, personally id go with the 6300 to save money because you can get a great OC out of it with the DS3 ti make up for the performance

Running stock here the Zalman model used for an AMD64 3500+ 939 model has been a plus. Make sure the case has adequate air flow as well. With the lower power needs on the newer model cpus board temps are often seen higher on new builds. As far as Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI those are about what you call the top three as far as specifications and even features supported. Other makes like Abit which sees favorable reviews always seem to lag behind the others.

hmm, good, my case is a pretty big and well designed one. gotta love the good free stuff :P

i'll make sure my cables are set right so the board doesnt overheat. don't want those shiny new parts to fry on me :)

I had to rush after a new one after first installing the present Socket 939 board here into the old case to replace a problem there. The board temps beat the cpu temps seen on the old board when the cpu cooler quit. That did fry the cpu there! Now you have to lower the fsb down from the 200mhz setting in the bios to the 166mhz there to see the old system even run. The board is still good surprisingly after the cpu made it's way to 85C!
