New Computer- What is good in hardware

Hey everyone. I need to know what is good in hardware for a totally new computer. I'm a AMD Athlon kinda guy and I like to have the best but for the value aswell. I'm looking at paying no more then 3000 for my computer. I'm wondering what kinda hardware would make an extreme gaming pc. Thanks everyone.
