New computer won't start

I just finished putting the pieces together and I thought I would power up the computer before putting the cover back on the case, just to see if the fans and lights come on. Nothing happened other than the red reset light on the mb lit up! Nothing else happened. Does the case have to be back together (I only have one side off). I'm not sure where to look next. Please help!!

Did you put the standoffs under the board in all the right places? Double check all connections.

3 on top and 3 on bottom. I'm assuming that is where the standoffs go. Also to the best of my ability, the connections are secure. Fans are connected to ps, hd to ps and mb, DVD also to ps and mb. The only other thought is to dismantle and start over. Any other thoughts?

The standoffs are only suppost to be under the boards holes with grounding strips.

yep, they are. On this mb there are 3 on either end.

I guess I should ask - -what is supposed to happen when you turn on a newly built machine? Does anything appear on the monitor?

Yes, the bios screen should pop up. You got the 8 pin CPU power connector plugged in?
