new computer wont work with my dell monitor ?

hello all
i have just received a new pc tower only.and when i connect it to my older dell monitor 24", it will not work using the dvi cable, but when i connect via the vga it does.
asus p5q pro motherboard
the graphics card is a gainward rampage 700 2048mb ddr5.
i am running vista64
and i have 8gb of ram ocz ddr2:
and a kandalf water cooled tower

all i get is the boot up and then the monitor goes into standby?

but my old gateway pc works fine with my dell monitor with the dvi .
can anyone help me please. i would hate to have to run this through my vga lead.

Seems to be a common issue with 4890's:

So that may carry over to the 4870x2 as well. Have you tried switching where dvi cables are connected on the card?
