So I had planned on building my own computer, but as I got to looking around on the internet I found this guy, which is just about as powerful as mine, and a lot cheaper. If I got it I would plan on putting a new graphics card in it. do you think that I would be able to do some gamming ,don't really care about the graphics setting, I just want to be able to play them without lag. and I also do some video editing but nothing hard core. The big thing to me is that I want to be able to use my 50 inch high def T.V. as a monitor. do you think this machine with this new graphics card could handle it?

like I said will this do what I need it to?

That will work fine with a new graphics card and PSU. What ever you do...don't skimp on the PSU...people under estimate the importance of a good PSU. And for some more money you can get so much more in a graphics card. If you have to wait a little while longer and save up more money to buy a high end card...I would do it...you will be much better off in the end!

now, won't it make a differance if these graphics cards ar pci 2.0 x16, the computer will only handle pci 1.0 x 16, or at least i think so.

it says 1 x PCI E x16 meaning it has 1 PCI E x16 Port, so the video card will go in..... and now days all the new motherboards have the 2.0 PCI E x16

It will fit into the PCI x16 slot....just have to upgrade your driver and everything should be working fine. I looked at the specs and like what cohen said, it's work.

Something to consider: Once you crack open that case to add your new video card, you void your warranty thru Gateway. If you're going to do that, you may want to consider other options, like reusing certain components in your current system (hard drive, DVD drive, speakers, mouse and keyboard) and investing in a decent barebones kit.
