New computer

Hello all.

I'm looking to build a computer soon. I have a $500 budget or so. As close to that, or under, would be best. This will be an all-around computer. I don't game hardcore, but I would like to be able to room semi-new games, such as within the last two or three years. I have a lot of music, movies, and other files. Also, I would like the computer to be quite upgradeable for the next few years, as I am starting college soon. So, my question is, what build would you people suggest?

go Intel, AMD is way behind the C2D's. Ill try to make you a PC for $500 later tonight. THen again, the i7s are releasing soon and the 775 socket will not be the newest socket out for intel. THen again, the i7s are in the $200+ range which is way over your budget anyways, unless u can scrub together every other part for absolute garbage prices, which I dont recommend.

What ZeroWing gave you a pretty solid build...
However to drop down on costs...
You can drop the case to something like a Coolermaster 590... userfriendly, and great cooling.
CPU, well depends can drop to e7300/e5200, and throw in a better cooler to overclock.
Video card... - perfect... but for another $20 you can get the much superior HD4850.
Otherwise solid powersupply, motherboard, however for harddrive if you want something faster.. go for a 640gb WD.

Hehe, I was too lazy to edit build last night and it seems like I don't need to anymore :). BTW, I have a HD4850 tho either my CPU is at its limit or my HD4850 is bad since I get extremely low frames for what the card cost :). Upgrading to Intel soon anyways to try to fix the problem. I still say E8400 over anything else, even downgrading + aftermarket fan is gonna cost you around the same amount. With an OS included, you are going to be very limited on cash. I suggest you try to scrape together another $100 to pay the OS off before you buy.
