New computer

Hi,
I'm planning to buy a new computer, and they gave me the choice to either include "Windows Vista" or "no OS", I'd rather choose "no OS" for the two simple reasons, it's cheaper and I've never really liked vista.

So anyway, my question is, can I use my ~2 year old Windows Xp Cd and install that instead? (I also have a "Drivers and utilities" Cd, but I'm guessing I shouldn't install that at all)

Thanks in advance!

If the old Windows XP disc has its own individual key then you can. If the old Windows XP disc is from a pre-built then it will only work on that configuration. With all honesty Vista is a great OS.

Yeah Vista had its problems when it released but now, it's pretty solid. I enjoy using it. I would go with the Vista OS, and then when 7 comes out think about upgrading to that. I hear Windows 7 is supposed to be pretty solid as well.

Yeah, from what I've heard before, it has gotten really good now, but then again, the main reason I don't want it is because I would have to pay a lot more.

Thanks! I've got my answer.

how much more do you have to pay??
because i know some computer retailers will add it on there for like 170 extra bucks then 180 for vista 64

you can get a oem off newegg for like 100

so if it really is that much more then say no then order your own

I have another question regarding kind of the same thing,
The new computer I'm buying will have 4 GB of Ram but my OS it 32-bit, from what I've heard that would then only give me 3 or 3.5 GB of the Ram, that itself is no problem, 3 GB is definitely enough.

So my question is if there will be any other problems or complication?

Thanks in advance!

You will be good to go with what you have. The issue is that your old Windows XP disc must be a retail version....if came with a prebuilt machine, then it becomes an issue.
