New Computer

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and saw that everyone is more knowledgeable than I am, so I was hoping I can get some advice.

I want to build a new computer because the one that I have is really outdated. I mostly want to use the computer as a small home virtual server. I want the computer to have 3 to 4 virtual OSs running on it at any given time.

I want a quad-core cpu with virtualization support, was thinking about 6GB of ram, and I do not think I need a high end video card.

I am torn on whether choosing AMD or Intel because I have always supported AMD but have access to a great deal with Intel.

I can get an Intel Core i7 920 cpu, with Intel Board DX58SO, with Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit edition), with a voucher for a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it is released to the public. All for $290!

As for AMD, I was thinking of a Phenom II X4 940 ($190), with Asus M4A79 Board ($190). (That is already $380)

Maybe I could do the same thing that I want to do with less hardware. Please give me your advice.

Thanks

$290 for that board, vista and a cpu is amazing, you have some very good luck being able to conjure that up:P
PSU, thats a great psu for the rig.

Gpu, as long as you arent gaming that gpu is suffecient. But for a few bucks more, this ati card performs a little bit better:

Thanks for the reply again. The ram looks good, looks like the voltage is a little more flexible. Thanks also for the video card recommendation. And I saw that HDD but I am not sure if I will be able to buy it that soon. Maybe I'll have to buy that first.

Actually, the normal price on those drives is only $5 more than the 500gb, still worth it for a.. ~32% increase in disk space for a ~7% increase in price;)
