New Computer

I have been wanting a new computer for some time now, but still don't have that much cash to spend. Recently, some computers have gone up for sale from the cyber cafe. They are only $300 and have some pretty good specs. Here are the general specs.

P4 2.0ghz Processor

512MB Ram

GeForce4 4200ti Video Card

Sound Blaster Live

Ethernet Controller


Do you think I could be able to run Half-Life 2 or source with these specs. I can get more information if needed. Also, I am willing to upgrade some of the parts. Thanks, Any advice would help.

You should run halflife alright. My old Athlon 1.4GHz with a Radeon 8500 ran it well. Not perfect, but very playable.

You might want to see what type of ram it has(DDR or RD), what the socket is(I forget what all is used for Pentiums) and the motherboard brand/model. It might not be all that upgradable...

As I found out the sound blaster live doesn't put out true 5.1 surround if that's important to you.

about $200 more you can get something alot better on ebay

That should run HL2 very playable.

I did it with a 1.49 CPU and a g4 MX. Source mods are usually a bit laggy on mine.
