I am going to try to build a computer on a realllllly tight budget, (I'm 14 so, yeah...) and I wanted to know if this was a decent build. I want to run Ubuntu Linux as the OS and wanted to play basic flash games and some games with low spec requirements. If there is anything I should change or isn't compatable please tell me why and what I should replace it with.

The reason I want to build this computer is because I want a Desktop and I want to build it on my own. Plus netbooks usually have horrible Graphics cards and processors.

And for Cheesecake2k, as I said earlier I'm going to use Ubuntu Linux

Thanks, that looks pretty good, but is there any way I could get a cheaper power supply? $70 seems a little extreme... or is a power supply something I don't want to go the cheap route on?
 
you could go with a 40 dollar one, but i wouldnt go cheaper, that supply gives you headroom for upgrades down the road, say if you add a actual graphics card, stick with corsair or antec or even silverstone for psus, but dont go uber cheap on a power supply, those things tend to explode (literally) and can take out your precious hardware

I just found out that with the $70 power supply theres a $20 mail-in rebate so thats fine for $50.... that build is good for me so I think I'll stick with it for now. Thanks for the help.

Here's some good 39$ memory.

Maybe you can get enough for a little bigger cpu and just use the stock cooler for now.

I changed my Hard Drive and DVD drive to the combo you said Benny, but the memory unit I have on the list is on sale for $37.

And I switched to the bundle with the case and cpu.

I'm using the newegg wishlist I just put on the initial post, so thats what I'm working with now.

be aware the 1600 stuff needs more voltage than the 1333 sets, i have had nothing but headaches with clocker ram, to the point i just stay away from it, id stick with the ballistix sport as it sticks with the approved specs by jdec of 1.5v, where the a-data runs anywhere from 1.55-1.75v, which over time, or even immediately will cause a ram failure.

Sounds good but is not entirely correct.

AMD and board manufacturers just stick with JEDEC standards for 1.5V and 1333. So if you have anything over that, it will just boot by default to 1333. Most C2 and all C3 will run 1600 just fine. Some C2 you might have to bump up the CPUNB voltage alittle, but most dont.

Show me where it says anything about running 1600 will void the warranty.

call a rep on the phone from amd, running outside the 1333 spec is not supported by the memory controller, and they cant help you if you decide to go beyond that. had that talk with them over the phone when my c2 stepping phenom's memory controller bit the big one. may not void the warranty, but its definately not supported by amd and i dont recommend it either, hence why now the new bulldozer chips are upping the memory controller limits to 1866 speed

tho im still not sure why its suggested that he gets fast ram when the cpu will be the biggest potential bottleneck here, due to lack of cores, tho im not sure what chip he went with at this point.
 
More of these AMD builds get 1600 more than any other speed. That may change for newer platforms for those that want to go higher than 1600, but for now, 1600 is the best for the money. Sheesh..It's only 2 dollars! Even if the user runs the 1600 @ 1333, it will be there for any future wants/needs/upgrades, and will have higher resale value. And if the cpu is ever overclocked, there will be headroom.
 
Wait lemme get this straight.... I want to go with the 1600 regardless if they run at 1333 because then there is room for improvement if I overclock and there's a higher resale value?

Like anything else computer, nothing holds it's value. The 1600 @ the timings it has, would be easier to sell imo.
