New Computer

I have purchased a new Gateway comuter, model fx400s, for use in my home business. My questions are why do I get frequent system lockup, frequent mouse failure, mouse pointer not visible and system startup failure from hibernation state. I have tried online support which at this point is a joke. This machine is 2 months old and I am actually going to repair my old machine and start using it instead. I am not well versed in computer technology and don't really know how to deal with this situation.

well bud you pretty much answered all of your own questions...like for example...

"why do I get frequent system lockup" heres your answer
"I have purchased a new Gateway comuter"

And another..
"frequent mouse failure"
"I have purchased a new Gateway comuter"

im sad that i have to say this but you pretty much waisted money and IMO you should have built a custom machine for your home business.
if you dont mind me asking..how much was this?

helpfull, now enough of the fanboy crap

@itteitj
there could be a variety of solutions, but since your system is so new it may be simplest just to reinstall from scratch. I assume they gave you some kind of recovery cd

I have recovery disks and backups plus what came with the machine. I might add that it came with some preloads and trial stuff which I would like to get rid of but don,t know what to delete and what to keep. I did subscribe to mcAfee virus stuff.

If you have the original Windows XP disk (Not the recovery one) you could use that to do a fresh install. I know dell gives a disk with their machines I don't know about Gateway.

I only have a disk that is labeled "windows xp recovery disk". I did make system back ups as gateway suggested, however I just did it now, 2 months after purchase and set up.:confused:

That's not really just "fanboy crap" when it's true. Gateway uses very cheap parts.

Possible to get a refund on the computer? Or at least exchange? Is it under warranty?
At this point I could only make a bunch of guesses of what the problem could be, but if there is a warranty I think you should take advantage of it.

there is a real joker in this forum...not if your not gonna help why post anyway the system recovery disk sounds like a good idea this will often fix the problem but it means u lose all your data
