Hello everybody, i need a new computer because my current dell completely blows and is the slowest thing in the world and can't even support any modern games. So...i want to build a fast computer that supports games and all that good stuff. This will build my first build and I want it to be a very nice. So here is what I plan on buying so far (I have no idea about this motherboard, so if you feel theres one i can but that is better please tell me. That goes for other parts too. Also tell me if I'm missing anything.):

Mobo: EPoX EP-9NPA+ SLi Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

Video Card: PNY VCG7900GXPB Geforce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor

RAM: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

PSU: Rosewill Value RV500S ATX 500W Power Supply 100-120 VRMS or 200-240 VRMS switch-selectable CSA, CB, TUV, FCC, UL

HD: Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

Disc Drive: LACIE 16X DVD±R DVD Burner w/ LightScribe Technology

Case: Lian Li PC-61 USB Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

lol the 150gb 10,000rpm is a bit much... you may as well just put two 80gb sata2's in RAID (or even 3, like i plan on doing) they cost about $51 each after shipping from newegg. lol hard drive speed doesnt matter as much as you think.
btw, it looks almost exactly the same as mine except a gt instead of gtx, and the corsair ram is a different model...
good setup though! order it! lol
btw, if you do get a 10,000rpm you may as well get 2*74gb raptors they cost about the same as the 150gb but you can put them in RAID 0 and boost performance a ton... of course 3*80gb 7200rpm is about 1/2 the price, and not bad performance either! :D

Can you explain the whole RAID system. Ive heard the word being tossed around but i still don't get it.
Also...what about the motherboard? Is there another one that is better for the price or did I choose the right one?

p.s.- i picked a 10,000 because i'm completely sick of having a slow computer...i guess i went too far. lol

RAID 0 is an array of hard drives. "Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks" however RAID 0 is anything but redundant. basically, RAID 0 is a worse form of dual channel for hard disks rather than memory chips. here how it works.
the RAID card (in this case, its on the motherboard i selected) organizes files on the hard disks, it stripes the info on the disks... simultaneously. lets say you use a stripe size of 128KB... and you want to copy a file thats 256KB to the hard drive... or for that matter, read the file. the RAID chip requests the file to be read/written and is therefore read/written much faster (theoretically twice as fast) than if you were using one drive.
2 80gb HDD's in RAID 0 will show up as 1*160gb HDD in the operating system.

heres a review
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/raid/levels/single_Level0.htm
generally RAID 0 offers 10,000rpm performance at a lower cost. the only disadvantage is that if your motherboard supports 4drives in RAID 0 then you can't get the performance with 4*7200rpm drives as you can with 4*10,000rpm drives. of course, 4 raptors will cost at least $400 (for the 36.7gb type, which arent that great anyways) and $600 for the 74gb type.

how come the different video card?
because its cheaper lol and its basically the same thing different brand.
the only REAL difference is the bios and the heatsink.. which effect default clocks (which can be changed) and temperatures which don't matter all that much anyways.

yes but only because its cheaper. personally i'd go with the G.Skill i suggest, because lower latency and same clocks. generally lower latency is better for gaming... but the price after rebate is really good on that RAM you found there :D sometimes rebates arent always what they say they are though. lol
if you'd like to save some mad money and downgrade the video card a bit i'll be selling my 7800gt

sry... little advertising for myself there lol

just plug them into the motherboard, and set them in raid 0 in the bios. sometimes there's a seperate raid bios but its relatively easy to figure out.
if you want to spend the extra $50-$70 on a 10,000rpm hard drive (74gb at least) its less likely that you'll lose any info. RAID 0 isnt redundant... meaning if one drives fails you lose two complete drives worth of data. however... they'll probably both last many years. a drawback to getting the 74gb raptor is size... only 74gb and costs $60 more.
i definitely think its more worth it to get 2*80gb sata2 drives and one 74gb sata1 raptor.
just got the 80gb hard drive and it reads at 57mbps... which in raid 0 is most likely over 100mbps. two 74gb raptors is somewhere near 120mbps.
if you read that site i showed you you'll know all the advantages and disadvantages to raid 0... like what stripe size to use, and so on and so forth.
depending on the RAID card (asus probably integrates a good one) you can put many hard drives in an array... this is the reason i bought my motherboard, it supports 6 sata2 connectors.
i might add another.. or maybe even 2 more drives for a RAID 0 array. :D
3*80gb sata2 hard drives is faster than one 74gb 10,000rpm hard drive... bigger, and about the same price as well. RAID 0 is a very useful tool!
imagine, windows loads that much faster hahah.. as well as games!
lol you remember the old loading screens... with the bar, for online games... imagine your bar being faster than anyone elses! haha... lol weird.
