New CPU and GPU, Shuts down while gaming.

I just purchased a used AMD X2 6000+ and a BFG 7900GT. I received the GPU first and installed it with the old cpu (single core Athlon 64 3500+ Orleans.) Worked great all weekend.
Just tonight I got my cpu in the mail. I installed it and it is getting very hot (according to SpeedFan I'm getting the flame icon and temps are getting into the high 50's to low 60's C for AUX and CPU). I can only play TF2 for around 10 minutes before it locks up and I have to exit the game before my computer shuts down.
I am using the stock cooler than came with my original Athlon 64 3500+. Did they ship better heatsink/fan combos with newer CPUs?
Can Arctic Silver go bad 3+ years after opening?
Do I just need to reconfigure my case?

Thanks for any help, this forum is great!

You need to buy a new heatsink and fan. The one you have was made for your slower/less heat processor.

Thanks for the reply. Since I posted, I realized I used way too much AS5. So I cleaned it all off and tried again this time spreading it very thin on the CPU. I still have very high temperatures.
I'm new to the aftermarket heatsink/fan market. Could you point me in the right direction? Is used stuff worth it? Thanks again!

It's in the signature: XClio 450BL.
After watching my temps closely, and checking out cpu-upgrade.com, it looks like my CPU is designed to shutoff at around 62C, and that is when I start having trouble. I can idle all day, but if I run Prime95, it will last around 10-20 seconds before it throws errors and reaches 60+ degrees C.
Another interesting note is that the cpu is designed to run at 1.1 - 1.4V. Mine is running at 1.40 - 1.44 and I cannot turn it down in my BIOS.
