New CPU or GPU?

Right now I have a core 2 duo e6600 and a XFX 5770 1gig running at 960mhz. Trying to play black ops with high resolution and high graphics is a joke. I remember hearing somewhere cod series rely more on cpu. If it is the gpu i can upgrade in a few days and if i should get a new cpu well ill need everything.

I would get a better cpu. You could go with a core 2 quad if your motherboard supports it. or else you could get a now motherboard and cpu for the current generation since a lot of the core 2 quads are still $250 and up.

Yea I'll just save up for an i7. Some of the parts I put together will be costing me $900. New case, processor, motherboard, and ram. Not to mention I JUST ordered the HX750w psu from corsair. It will be good just going to take some time i guess

I agree with Salvage,The 5770 is good enough...your Dual core is whats probably holding you back in some of the latest games that favour a Quad core more.

Core 2 Quads are still overpriced like he said,Consider saving up for maybe an I5 sandy bridge....depends on your budget!

I would also agree about the CPU being your bottleneck. I also have a 5770 except mine is paired with a quad core CPU (and one of the crappier quad cores at that!) and I am able to run most games at high settings with no problem. With new CPU technologies coming out, I would not spend your hard earned money on the earlier stuff, but rather wait until you can afford the newest stuff.

If you get an i5 or i7 sandy bridge, you'll at least have an 1155 socket mobo that won't be obsolete in a couple of years like the 1366 or 1156...

I have been looking at the phenom x4's like the 955. so much cheaper to go along with a motherboard and ram.

If I were you I'd go with sandy bridge and Buy a i3-2100 or i5-2300 and a decent P67 board- H67 if you don't plan to OC. If you really want to i5-2500k- i7-2600k is a bit overkill for gaming IMO

If you have decent cooling, I would try to overclock your processor a little bit before buying a new one. See what you can do without spending money first.

3.8 seems to be their limit on air without crazy voltages. The hexcores seem to act the same around 4.0 Either way you get great performance.

AFAIK they OC good as well.

I wouldn't buy anything over a 955, unless it is a Hex-core. They are pretty much the same chip with a higher multiplier

Yea, most likely I will be saving up for the 955. I am in the process of buying a new truck and I am only 18 so money is kind of tight right now. What would be the best bang for buck motherboard for the 955? I was looking at this one.

Since I would be able to crossfire in the future and sata 6gb/s

That looks like a good motherboard. I have some Motherboards bookmarked:

I don't know if those boards can do 8x/8x crossfire but I wouldn't crossfire two 5770's if I were you, I'd just buy a single more powerful card. I think the 5850 is along the lines of two 5770 cards. If you want to go real cheap you can buy an Athlon II 640.

Since my cpu is bottlenecking so bad I will probably stick with the 5770 until I can get a $400 card. It just irritates me to play any game with less than around 80fps..it's just what I like. I'm checking out those motherboards and they look pretty good. I'm just a little cautious with what I am going to buy since this will be my first build. the pc I have now the only thing I have done to it is switch from a mid tower to a full tower..

What price range? This one is a bit more expensive but a top performer:

80fps is really high for any game, consider yourself set if you can hit 50-60. For 200 you could pick up a 6850, which uses less power and is clocked higher than the 5770.
