Would the E5200 be able to handle games like Crysis and Supreme Commander?
Why the AM2+? It is actually surprisingly cheap
Because socket 775 is end of life, the only upgrades in the future would be a current core 2 quad, no new processor releases will be made on 775(as intel is transitioning to two new sockets). If you could spend more though, the Phenom II X3 is an amazing cpu for the price. What kinda price will be spent for the whole rig?

hey bomber im from northeast ohio as well and i go to micro center a few times a month... but im on the west side so the drive is like 45 minutes
nice rig man here is my rig
EVGA nForce 790i ULTRA SLI FTW
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33 ghz
6 GB Triple Channel Kingston DDR3 1333 RAM
2 X EVGA Nvidia GTX 9800+ (SLI)
Cooler Master CM 690 ATX Tower
Corsair 850W PSU
2 X Western Digital 500GB Caviar Black
the one thing i hate about my rig is that it cost me about 1300 total
and i could have done a core i7 build for that much... buyers remorse oh well...
umm why did you post your rig? Totally random![]()
I really don't suggest Intel at this moment.
With AMD he'll be able to get an AM2+ board and cpu cheaply. If he just wants dual core, he can get the 7750 and ASRock A790GMH for $145 USD.
If he has DDR2 memory that he wants to use, he'll have to get an AM2/AM2+ board.
It's not that big a difference at this point between DDR3 and DDR2. DDR2 he'll get cheaper, and can still use his own. My AMD 720 BE can overclock to 4ghz (albeit unstable) on my AM2+ board.
The chipsets from an AM2+ and AM3 board are currently the same (790x, SB7xx) so the main difference is going to be DDR3 and upgradeability.
