New Dell XPS 5 Owner, Instead Of Building My Own

Well it must be nice to have. Bleh I still need to order a PNY card and hope its compatible with the shuttle :( I would've gotten the laptop myself but thats because I travel to much. Nice buy.

that system is pretty nice. however you could easily build a much cheaper one at www.zipzoomfly.com. and amd system which be cheaper and faster. if you have the money for it however that is a pretty nice system you got there

Speed is mesure in Hz so amd is not faster. not that speed matters when it comes to performance. Also we are long past the days when AMD was cheaper.
Just look at Intel dual core VS Amd dual core. Amd dual core is a lot more money.

Still, it was going to cost me roughly $2,600 for the entire system, that I wanted. And I narrowed it down to a manufacturer, since I didn't feel like building it on my own.

Also, I was real close to purchasing an AMD system, but I went ahead and stayed with Intel. To me, either would work, considering I'm running a Celeron now. I'm not a 100% gamer, like the majority of people on this forum.

Dual core is alot more money, however I could have went with dual Intel 3.0 Mhz processors, instead of the 3.6 Mhz I got for a little cheaper.

Doesn't Dell have those "magic coupons" :) A while back when I was considering one of their notebooks (inspiron 9300) I'd see these "$750 off" coupons if it was priced high enough. But reading the notebook forums, people seemed to get killer deals. That is in the U.S. though, as they can't seem to offer that much of a competitive price here in Canada.

Anyways, I'm sure they have coupons for desktops too. Was wondering if you used them? If not, you could have possibly saved a bundle!

right now you can customize this computer all you want and they will take a certain percentage off the total! like 15-30% or something.

Yeah, as of right now the entire desktop series is 20% off, with the exception of the XPS & 9100; they are 25% off.

And those coupons come in handy. . .especiallly the rebates, as well.

Intel's single cores are still more expensive. As for why AMD is increasing prices, it's due to their market segment, they're planning to only sell to gamers, or professionals, while intel is planning for every computer to shift to dual-cores, as a result intel offers its chips cheaper.
