Try removing Norton. You want to talk about a serious pain in the ass. Resource hog frickin garbage. AAGH I hate Norton. Useless waste of resources. Just to think, they used to have such a good name.

Anyways, the best antivirus, bar none, is Panda. That is why I sell it.
Like I said I run an online panda scan once a week as well and it does not find anything...everyone is always talking about what a resource hog norton is but I just dont see it, it uses a whole 8mb of ram running in the background (What a resource hog) since I only have 2gigs. That resource hog crap came about in 1996 when computers only had 32mb of ram then yeah 8mb's was alot of resource. I have used every antivirus known to man from avast to panda and panda uses just as much resources.

Oh my bad I just looked it's using about 14mb's

It can be hard to uninstall sometimes but symantic has a removal tool if you realy want to get rid of it.

It's not just RAM that it hogs. It just bogs everything down. No worries, I used to use Norton myself. Actually I used it for quite a few years. I might even still have a copy of System Works around here somewhere. I'm a packrat. I don't throw anything out. I have a filing cabinet full of junk and a huge pile of old parts that I'll probably never use. Got any use for a handful of 2MB PCI VGAs or a coax NIC???? *sigh*

Anyways, Panda is nasty when it comes to resources, I will admit that. At least it is for the Platinum edition. You need to have 512MB to run it on XP or it bogs the system down. However, it has the most advanced heuristics of any of the antivirus programs by far.

I use Panda Businessecure because I have a network (and I got it for free, so what the hell). It installs the admin panel on the server and then this tiny little client on all the workstations and the other two servers. It is absolutely amazing. I love it. :)

Panda is a very good AV I know that for a fact but you said Norton and McAfee missed thousands of viruses? I just dont see it because they both have about the same detection rate as Panda...the thing is there is no antivirus that will catch everything what Panda might miss Norton might catch and what Norton might miss McAfee might catch and what McAfee misses Panda might catch!

Thats why I will do and online scan once a week with Panda and Kaspersky just incase Norton did miss something but it never has. I figure if I had a virus one of the three would have caught it so I dont bother with other online scans.

As far as heuristics goes that can be a good thing but it can also give you alot of false positives too. One AV I have not tried is Nod32 I think that is going to be my next AV when my Norton runs out in a few months.
