New desktop-need advice!

Ok, so heres the story..
my friend gave me his old desktop minus the RAM and the harddrives. I have a spare HDD from another disused computer(i dont know if it's still got stuff on it). I have just bought 512mb of DDR ram just to get me started. I have an XP disc. Once i clip the ram in, turn it on, and insert the disc, will it start installing windows and show up on the screen(onbard graphics btw)? this is the hardware that i have: Motherboard, CPU, CD drive, hard drive, RAM, PSU. Is this all i need to get this computer running. I dont care if its slow, i just want to get it running, install windows and upgrade later.

That's it. Set the CD-ROM as the first boot device in BIOS or choose CD-ROM from the boot menu and you should be on your way. :D

as dean has expertly put it, then it should install your windows for you, just follow the prompts and have your cd key handy ;)
 
In my opinion no whichever component you are using but your method is 100% correct so your windows installation should start-up.
