i'm gonna buy a new computer, most likely a dell desktop, but some people have told me that dell is one of the worst computer brands. is that true? if yes, whats a good brand thats not too expensive?

nowt wrong with dell, generally pretty decently priced and plenty of help about for them.....expect a lot of build your own replys though as its would be the better option

My choice HP

I bought a HP system from CompUSA and it's been the best system I ever had. It was easy to setup and booted up and has never had a problem.

Also getting Info. from HP support is really easy with quality people. Not that I have needed them but I did a e-mail a question test and got a quick answer to my non problem question.

Also HP offers Auto system upgrade for Bios and other hardware and software needed upgrades.

For my money you can't go wrong with and HP system.;)

Yeah I would say HP is the best out right now. They have good deals and you can pick up a decent computer at your local walmart.

Ive had 2 HP computers and a DELL and overall i think hp will do good... new dells are also good.. so look for a a computer that suits u best

Ya build it yourself, j/k, no serisously you do get more for you money by building it yourself however if you feel at anyway uncomfortable by doing that, especially if you aren't gonna be like doing major gaming and stuff then dells and hp's are fine. I would go with an hp though, heard really good things about them.

ok the thign about building it myself, is it hard? actually i dont think i'd do it MYSELF, but would they charge a lot to just put everything together at a store, or like where do i go?

agreed, go with the amd system though, p4's are slow compared to athlons, at least my 3700+ to my p4 HT 630 prescott. Depending on what you are gonna use it for 512mb of ram, 80gig+ harddrive and you should be good. But what will you be using this for and once again what is your budget.

And if you would do this, its not really worth it, they will overcharge you for it, however if you know someone personally who could build it for you maybe like $50 and the parts, I know I would do it for that. But then again price it out what it would be after labor, sometimes you actually spend about the same.

Probably anywhere between 50-100$.

Building isent really that hard. Look at the sticky thread Building Computers 101. It will help you a lot.
