I just bought a Artec VOM-12E48X 12X DVD
drive. I installed it on my older XP machine.
The computer recognizes the drive and with
a DivX software I was able to burn my first
700 mb disk.

I recorded a .avi movie and when I trierd to
play the disk on my older dvd player It loaded
and showed me a screen with a "root" directory.
I can shift directories between root and another
file but It WON"T PLAY.

What do I have to do to play the disk on my
walmart dvd player?

Here is som ino on drive $27

If you are trying to play the disk on a standalone dvd player connected to a tv, then it definately isn't going to work. DVD's that are playable need to have the files in a specific format - there's more to do than just making sure it's on the correct disk type.

Firstly I'll need to confirm that what you're trying to play on your dvd player isn't copyrighted material. I will assume that it's a home movie or something else that you have the rights to make copies of.

A standard dvd (one that is playable by a standalone dvd player) consists of two folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The AUDIO_TS folder will be empty and the VIDEO_TS will contain various file types, including .vob, .bup and .ifo. If you put a commercial dvd into your computer's disk drive and explore the disk, you'll see what I mean. You need some software that can convert your avi file into that format. Try downloading Video DVD Maker FREE, it's a pretty easy interface. See how you get on.
