New feature of windows 8

ive not wanted windows 8 for a long time now but that is just another nail (two nails if you include that dvd support is dropped too) in an already tightly nailed down coffin.

I have herd this all around but never seen it in practice. On average I am using 10% more RAM and a average idle usage of about 15% more on the CPU with 7. Say it all you want, I have never seen it be easier on resources ever.

You've never run Windows Vista and Windows 7 on low end machines then. Vista is hell on 512mb of ram. Win 7 is bearable.

I ran vista on 512MB but never 7. I have run 7 on 756MB though, and it was plenty unusable. But that is not the point. On a machine plenty powerful for both systems, it does not pan out. Arguing that 7 runs better on archaic hardware is a horrible argument. On my machine (2600k, 8GB, 4870/480, ASrock motherboards, SATA II HDDs) Vista uses less resources than 7 on average.

I can't see Windows 8 succeeding at its current state honestly. Not a big fan of the whole hybrid tablet/desktop system.

Well I've had the opposite experience. Windows 7 has always had better RAM management for me. Maybe windows patched Vista with updates after I stopped using it, I dunno. I'm not gonna argue with someone over the internet over something so trivial, though.

Hi all;
I am running Windows 8 RP Build 8400 now on a separate partition, till it craps out in January. Then I will reformat that partition. I like some of the advantages and dis-advantages about it. Granted about the DVD crap, but I really like the speed on booting and shutting down. The Metro or whatever they call it now, isn't that bad. But, I go right into the desktop tab as soon as all the programs load.
But hey, that's what "Beta's" are for. To check it out to see if you like it or not.
I read somewhere, I think in PC World or PC magazine. Forgot which, by some guy wrote an article saying that Windows 8 will not run on a PC based machine, I wrote a comment back about that.
Right now my main OS is still Windows XP x64 Pro . Been for 3 yrs now. Never had a problem with it. When I get my new system together, I will be putting Windows 7 Professional x64 on it. Only 2 more yrs left on XP, then it will go by the way side like all the other Windows have done. But thanks for the info on the "Smart Screen" crap, went and disabled that crap off the bat. I love reading the posts and all you guys are really great.

Thanks
