or go to the 955, as astii said in another thread, it is the same exact cpu, but they lowered the multiplier by 1, that's the only difference other than 10 bucks in your pocket, and if you raise it more you get the other 900 series cpu's for a good bit less than market value.
 
Okay thanks. And also, I was planning on adding either one 200mm red led fan for the top of my case, or two 120mm red led fans.... I've heard that the bigger the fan, the more air it can move at slower speeds. So...If I can save 10 bucks with getting 2 120mm fans instead of 1 200mm, should I get them..?? I would also have more options to customize....I could put the two 120s in the front and swap the stock 200 to the top of the case.... Any input?
 
well these aren't necessary, but if you want to stay cooler and all which you should be fine with what's in the case if it has 2 120's stock, but i'd do the 2 120's on top
 
Okay, thanks. I'll probably get the two 120s (it's also just for style I guess).
Now, I don't plan on overclocking anything. I just don't want to mess with that. So if I don't overclock, which cpu and graphics card will give me the best "bang for my buck"? (Besides the 955 over the 965)
 
ok listen to me, this is not true over clocking, they basically took this 1 chip, lowered the multiplier 1, and re numbered it, then again, and 1 or 2 more times, like when they lock cores, it's cheaper then buying another million buck machine to produce something so small, when they can reprogram it, it is completely safe and will not do any harm or even risk it, and with that much air moving through there you don't need to worry anyways
 
I actually wasn't speaking specifically about the 955 vs 965.
I was just stating that in general some graphics cards (or processors) can be overclocked better than others (thus rendering their core clock or speed worthless)....so I'm looking for components that are good as is. Cheaper than most but delivering good performance without the need to overclock.

Looks good.

But change the board to this one. 10 phase power setup, 2oz. copper PCB, Low RDS (on) mosfets and pretty good coolers. Plus its a 900 series chipset, can upgrade to Zambezi later on.

I do not think there is anything wrong with the ASUS M5A97 Socket AM3+ Motherboard. Either the GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 Socket AM3+ or the ASUS main boards are good quality.

You may want to wait on purchasing an AMD processor because the Socket AM3+ Processors will likely be released within 45 days. They are going to be a lot more powerful than Socket AM3 Processors.

Are you talking about the new "Bulldozer" line?? Weren't those supposed to come out last month?
 
Bulldozer and Socket AM3+ are just different names for the same line of processors. Yes, they were supposed to be out by June 30th, but Advanced Micro Devices ran into problems and the release was delayed. Very likely some of the new Socket AM3+ will be released by August 20, 2011.
 
that was announc about a month ago, and supposed to be from late july to in september last i heard, then people start saying that is several spots, good new is should show it at something on the 14th i think it was, 1 guy said 16th but he didn't remember well and i think it was 14th.
 
what i was saying in my last post luxio was that it isn't hard and not true oc'ing, that's pushing something to its limits, or at least what you can get out of it, this is more of getting a good chunk of change back from a good cpu instead of overpaying for the same card un-reduced
 
AMD's New APU

So, can anyone tell me anything about the new AMD A8-3850?? It looks like it's a great card and on cpubenchmark.net it has a score that's 2,000 higher than the phenom II 965......The only thing I'm worried about is that I don't think the built in graphics card is good enough for the type of gaming that I want to do, but I can still add another card. Should I stick with a higher end card or can I get a cheaper card that will work just as well when combined with the onboard graphics of the AMD APU??

Imagine how good the AMD Zambezi core processors are going to be is the A8-3850 can outperform the Phenom II 970. You do not want a Socket FM1 processor. Wait for the Socket AM3+ processors. Likely they will be released by August 20th.
 
If you're waiting for BD, then I would suggest also looking at intel's ivy bridge range (LGA2011) which is probably going to be better.
 
I'd go with this one instead, it's a few bucks more but I trust XFX cards a little more than Power Color, and with the Main-in Rebate it's a much better card for the same price as the Galaxy nVidia card... :)
