Hey guys just wanted to get your opinion on this comp I'm building.

Does this seem like a good setup to you?

Is there anything else I need?

Case $29

Mobo $116 socket 939

RAM $100 512MB(2X256) Geil pc3200 ram

Video Card $100 Radeon 9600Pro

Oh and do you think I should add anything else?

Thanks,
John

Actually, isn't the video card a bit old? If you could afford it, you should probably go with at least a 9800 Pro, in my opinion.
And the link with the case doesn't work.

I cant see any of the components.....but from the price already i cant imagine its a "great" gaming computer regarding the minimun need for todays top games...and you dont want the minimum for a "gaming" PC do you?

You also need a PSU, CPU Fan...maybe a sound card, Hard Drive, CD Drive and maybe a Floppy Drive

The cpu isn't that bad actually, is it? Though I can't compare the prices to my country's currency.

None of your links are working, but looking at the parts, this looks like a decent hardware setup if you are on a budget. It won't play the newest fastest games like a higher end machine, but it will do ok on some of the slower less demanding games. I know that new egg has 1 Gb corsair RAM (2 x 512Mb) that comes in a matched set for around $145.00.

That would be the only difference I would make for your gaming PC.

You can always upgrade your video card later, but as everyone else has said in here, a good video card is a must for playing today's games.

Seems a bad idea spending money on an old video card just to upgrade it when you figure out HL2 is running like crap.

Unless thats all the money you have at the time. A 9600 Pro is not a bad card but by no means will it run any recent game near max settings.

Ergo. ;)

And I think you could use a bit more ram, surfing4ever24.

Sorry, I was responding to your other post  . I'd have to agree that a gig of memory is a good idea. You can find it pretty cheap, I think Newegg has 512 sticks of Kingston for like $66.

Yeah I think I'll upgrade the RAM, but what should I upgrade the video card to?

Anyone got a good hard drive I should get?
Whats your budget and what kind of games do you expect to play?

I need the comp to be like under 1200 bucks. I wanted to make my own to save money on brand names like Gateway yet still have a nice gaming comp. I expect to play Half-Life 2 and Counter Strike Source.

You should be able to get a decent machine for 1200. But look around a lot, and if you find cheap parts, that's good.
The case is really the least important part. More or less anything goes, unless it's a solid rock with no ventilation. :P
You could try getting a smaller hard drive, like 120 Gb, and maybe save some money to spend on other parts.
See if someone wants to sell an old monitor. As long as it works and the picture's fine, it might really save you some money. I got an old 19" for about $130, and it works perfectly.
