What do you think about these components for new gaming rig? I will build PC myself and install newest BIOS for MotherBoard & SSD & DVDRW & everything else. Test RAM with memtest, reconfigure BIOS and overclock CPU to 3.6-4GHz. Install Windows 7 64bit and after that install newest drivers for all components.

For now 19" at 1680x1050, soon on 24" 1920x1080!
 
that is total overkill, especially for just a gaming computer. 12gb of ram is WAY more than you need. just go with a single set of 3x2gb sticks. i would also recommend just going with 1600 ram instead of 1866. you could save some money there since 1866 would really be wasted on just gaming.

if you really need a board that can do 4-way sli, that is a great board. but i would go with something a little cheaper than that personally:

with the money saved you could go for 2 480s in sli or go with a similar ati setup.

It's an interesting quetsion.

I am wondering if anything more than a 2 core cpu is a waste for a gaming system? You're not going to be playing more than one game at a time or have many more applications open while gaming are you?

Would you prefer to have say for example an i3 overclocked to 4.4Ghz or a 4 core cpu at 3.8 or 4.0 Ghz?

In a gaming rig would you gain more benefit from the extra two cores above or the extra raw clock speed?

Not a gamer myself and haven't been for some time but just wondering where you see the benefit of more cores over raw speed for a gaming rig if you're looking for value and similar price points if you have a budget for the individual components of your new build?

BTW I think the above is good advice. You could save on the memory, board and even cpu. Keep with the graphics in 2-way or 3-way Sli and still have some cash to spend on other things as well.

I'm also not sure on the advantage of SSD drives except say for example web based applications where you have numerous inputs and outputs? I am thinking that just having four lower cost SATA3 drives with 64mb cache in a short stroked raid array will give you better performance, speed and space for less? I may be wrong though.
 
SSDs increase boot time, file search time, program and game load time, etc.
You would be amazed.

Anyways, why do you want two 470s?

I will stick with 12GB ram, because I would run later 3x LCD, this 19" and later new 24" as primary LCD (LED). On second I will have browser, msn, steam, etc. runing all the time. Plus third LCD, VGA-to-VGA to my TV LCD 32".
At back I will connect 5.1 sound system and will also use USB Headphones Logitech G35 Gaming Headset.
Headset using while gaming, 5.1 when party/movie night. :)
That's why SLI (and I want that PhysX). I know for microstuttering.

Whole system will cost about 2.2k€ with VAT and without 24" LCD and headset. But I will buy throught bussiness, so price will be about 1.8k€. I already own LCD TV and 5.1 sound system.

This rig will not be used only for gaming but Photoshop, AutoCad, Maya & some other programs will be used.

And I'm not "rich" type guy, just saving money for last 4 year, so give me a break. :)

480 SLI would be overkill times two, to hot, to expensive, thats why 470 SLI.
470 SLI should be cooled pretty good, check goodies of Element V Nvidia Edition. It have a lot o fans, big ones too and that Tri-Way SLI duck tape is looking promising.

I hope that clears everything, oh and I will go with Corsair H70 watercooling.

You've done your homework. Those TwinFrozrIIs should cool the GTX470s well. Should serve fine for pretty much all intents and purposes.:good:
 
A little issue I ran into and probably worth mentioning with your choice of GPUs is the 16X spacing on that board, (and most other X58 boards). Seems that running two cards in the top two slots results in about 1/4" airspace between the two cards - too little for any significant air movement. I noticed this running a pair of 4870s on my new P6X58D-E. Top card was overheating and shutting down, because the air at the fan intake was being pulled directly off the top of the lower card. Now my case has more horizontal air movement than most with two 140mm fans blowing unobstructed across the MB and GPUs, yet I was obviously not getting any cool air between the cards. I ended up moving the lower card down a notch into an 8x slot. Paid a small performance penalty but got 5c off idle and 12c off load temps on the 4870s.

I've continued to run in slots 1 and 3 since buying new GPUs, as I'd rather pay a small performance penalty than run the top card significantly hotter than the lower. At this point I don't know if I'd have the same issue with the 460s, and I certainly have no idea if you'll have any temp issues, but it is something I thought worth mentioning.

With my plan to SLI right from the start, and had I known more about slot spacing, I would probably have considered a board with another slot space between the two 16x slots such as, ASRock X58 EXTREME6
 
It will get 5-10C hotter. I will use first and third PCI-E slot. Asus even recommend that. SLI bridge is long enough.
First three PCIEs are 16x, but if you use three PCIE, two further from CPU will be 8x. If you use first and second PCIE, both will be 16x. If you use first and third PCIE they will still be 16x. That is writen in manual. Asus recommended that when using SLI that the best way is to first use first and third PCIE. Fourth PCIE is only 8x, I think.

Im not worried about temp. because it is aftermarket cooler from MSI, it is Twin Frozr II, and case is from Thermaltake and Nvidia, which have pretty awesome cooling solution.

Only thing I'm worried about is 850W, but it is Corsair, and it is phucking AX. So that should be enough for OC CPU, OC Mobo, 2x 470 OC, 2x HDD, 2x DVDRW,3x 140mm fan, 2x 120mm fan, 170mm fan and 200mm fan and about 6 USB connection.

AX1200W have some problem with noise, well actualy is really anoying whine as I watched it on youtube.

Yeah, I have been reading quite a few reviews, about 2 weeks now from first, second, third, etc. review of Asus Rampage 4 Formula and AMD Phenom-II X6 1090T, WD disk, 4GB RAM, etc. After that... well, you can see from where to where did I came :)

Will do post some pic, if I have any luck this/next month...
 
Why not throw in a sound card as well? If you're going to do gaming then you'll want a nice X-fi to go with it. X-fi's are A LOT better than onboard when it comes to 3D positional surround sound in gaming.

Will consired that after I buy this PC. If everything goes well, then 24" will come, also new keyboard and mouse (of course mousepad also) and new sound card and also new USB wireless and wireless device and new headset USB. But first... PC is priority :)
