New GPU : Less that £140 (Within PSU)

dude.. this is the PERFECT situation for where you NEEED to get a 7900GTO.. not many people know about them and there is not a while lot of them arround, but you can find them on ebay for $180 or so, they are nothing less than a 7900GTX that has been underclocked to sell cheeper.. You can eaisly overclock it to match a GTX. It actually come in a 7900GTX box with a sticker over the X..lol.. I have flashed my video bios to match a GTX and there is NO WAY for anyone to know that it was ever a GTO!!. after I got mine, and my friends seen what It can do for the price, I got 4 of them to go buy one for themself. Its really an amazing card for the price, and a great card overall, it hangs with $300-$400+ cards. Look in sig at my 3dMark06 scores..I have another friend with a faster processor posting over 7K in 3dMark06 with one EVGA 7900GTO..

BTW, it does out perform the 7950GT...

I bet you could get this one for a good price. I will put my personal aproval on this card.. I LOVE mine and so do my friends~!

So the 8600 isn't a very good card then? It has pretty good spec by the look of it?

7900GTO, good you say... What do you think I should do...

Maybe upgrade the PSU and get an 8800, but I don't know, it's expensive and I don't know if DX10 is going to need a must for a while?

What the hell get a 8600 Its dx10 for christ sake :D

Why would you want to buy another DX9 card when you have the chance to buy a nice DX10 card :D

Mate honestly if think its better for you that theyve discontinued it because you now have the chance to get DX10:)

BUT...i dunno about that Psu :(

I've heard that the 8600 isn't all that great a card, it's DX10 but apparently it doesn't perform that well?

I like the look of that one, I don't know if it'd run on my PSU though?

Surely it performs better than any DX9 card though

To be honest mate if i was you i would go DX10 so your ready for the new DX10 games but obviusly its up to you.

If they say its crap then thats their opinion realy isnt it :),Im no pro lol when it comes to these things but im thinking what will be better in the long run.

Yeah, I know what you mean...

I was looking at the 8800 320MB and it says it needs a 400watt with 26A on the +12v rail, I have a 380watt with +12v1 = 17A and +12v2 = 17A, I don't know if it'd be enough?

They are having problems with DX10.. I would not waste your money to buy a DX10 card and be a guinea pig with it.. DX10 will not be the standard for atleast another year, if not two, by that time any video card will be outdated and you will need a new one. I would let other people pay big money to test the DX10 cards. DX9 is proven to work awsome..You will get a much better deal on a DX9 card.. But in the end its up to you. If you dont want to upgrade your video card for 3+ years (means not playing the newsest games) then get a DX10.. if you like playing the newwst games and having a good video card, then go with DX9 for a year or so, then when DX10 is here and good, get a nice 8800GTS, they will be down to $250 then. (maybe)..

I wouldn't risk it without upgrading the PSU. You'd be running very close with anything above an 8600GTS in the DX10 family.

I found this that shows the power comsumption:

By the looks of it I could get away with an 8800?

yes, if the only thing your running is a video card, your processor, ram, fans, harddrives, moterboard all take power. you need to have that much left after everything to run the card, and im sure they peak atleast 100watts higher than that from time to time.

Your processor E6500 takes 150+ watts at standby and 200-250+ at high load, playing a game.. plus each hard drive is like 150 while under full load, 2gb of ram can take 150watts under load. and so on....

If you thinking about getting a 8800 320MB then i think your Psu wouldnt be good enough to be honest.

But this 8800 isnt a bad price actualy

Realy i wouldnt buy another DX9 card again because DX10 is the future as ive said many times in this thread but if you do get a 8800 GTS OC then you probably would need to splash out for another psu:cool:

Sorry i cant help you much m8.

Hey, Thanks for the input dude!

Thats the thing with the PSU, I've read that it only draws like 260watts on a whole system (with GPU, CPU, RAM, everything, so I'm thinking mine would be fine. Also, It needs 26A on the 12V rail, I don't know how to work it out but, I have 2 12v rails with 17A on each

EDIT: Did a PSU calculator and it says I need a 348Watt PSU, Filled it all in correct too
