New Graphics card problems

Hi, i recently got a new graphics card, it's a Galaxy GeForce GT 240 Video Card - 1GB PCI-Express 2.0 (x16), 1x Dual-Link DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x VGA, DirectX 10.1, Single-Slot

My system is an emachines model number is ET1641-02w and im running vista.

The problem is i put in the card, and it's not displaying through the card, nor is it detecting the card, though on one restart it detected new hardware but it couldent get drivers installed to it and it said it was an "Unkown Device"

Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks.

would prob help if it had a power supply capable of anything more than what the comp came with. i think my emachine came with a 250 or 300w elite group or something.

Yeah, i forgot to mention that i upgraded the psu to a 350 watt, minimum for the card says 300.

Look in the bios and see if you have a setting that sets what video it looks for at boot. Should be listed something like PCI/IGD/PEG. If it does set it PEG.

Nope, there was nothing like that in bios, the only thing similar was "Init display first" the options were "Pci" and "Pci Express" i switched from pci express to pci but that did nothing

What brand and model power supply do you have? Plus remove the card and reseat it again and make sure its in the slot good. In the bios leave it at PCIe.

I have a Thermaltake W0328RU Purepower ATX Power Supply - 350W, 80mm Fan, SATA-Ready psu, and i have taken the card out and put it back at least 5 times now.

My guess is its a bad card. Try exchanging it, but first if you have another computer or someone that does, try it in that one just to make sure.

it is not the card, it is most likely your power supply! the Graphics card may need to be powered with two cables, 6 pin perhapes, i had the exact same probrlem and i got a better GPU and it was all fine :)
