New Graphics Card: Radeon HD 6870

Hi, im looking to upgrade from a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB DDR3 PCI-Express to a Radeon HD 6870. But before i do i'd like to gather some feedback on it's performance and any problems people have had with it.

Well if your going to stay with a single card and never Crossfire, then Id go with the HD 5870 its still the strong of the 2 cards. heres the benchmarks for Crysis Warhead, pretty demanding game

Thats just one game, over all the performance of the card is better... I dont see $30 being an issue especioally if you going with a single card and never going to crossfire
 
I would go with the 6870, even if you aren't going with a multi-GPU setup, a few extra fps doesn't justify $30 extra, when the 6870 is still going to be throwing out great FPS at full settings in every game.

I also wouldn't trust Cryis benches at all, it is optomized so badly, only DX10 and a fairly old game now, why it is still used in benches I don't know.

However, before getting ANY card, what power supply do you have?
 
the 6870 is going to give you about the same performance as a 5870, but draw less power, give off less heat, and offer you better features.ill go with the 6870 allday.

The 5870 gives slightly better performance, but not enough more to justify spending that much more
 
You never mentioned what your needs are, and whether you would rather have an nVidia or Radeon card. Is this card going to be used for games, graphic design, video editing or what? The two companies design their cards differently so what you need the card to do is a factor.
